Fog Light Bulb

Procedure for replacing the fog light bulb on a 1992 Dodge Viper, requiring access from under the front fascia.

• H3 halogen fog light bulb × 1 — 55W H3 bulb or OEM equivalent

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake.
2. Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
3. Turn off fog lights and allow to cool for at least 10 minutes if recently operated.
4. Raise front of vehicle using floor jack at designated front jack point.
5. Secure vehicle on jack stands placed under appropriate frame rail or subframe locations.
6. Remove front wheel on side requiring bulb replacement (if additional clearance needed for access).

Procedure

   Locate fog light assembly
   From underneath the front of the vehicle, locate the fog light housing. The 1992 Viper has fog lights integrated into the lower front fascia. The bulb socket accesses from the rear of the housing.

   Disconnect electrical connector
   Locate the electrical connector attached to the rear of the fog light bulb socket. Press the release tab and pull the connector straight off the bulb socket. The connector may be tight due to weather sealing — wiggle gently while pulling if needed.

   Remove bulb socket
   Grasp the bulb socket at the rear of the fog light housing. Rotate the socket counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it releases from the housing. Pull the socket and bulb assembly straight out of the housing.

   Remove old bulb
   The H3 bulb is retained by a spring clip or wire retainer on the socket. Press or lift the retainer clip to release it, then carefully pull the bulb straight out of the socket. Note the orientation of the bulb terminals for correct installation of the new bulb.

   Install new bulb
   Using clean gloves or holding the new H3 bulb by its base, insert the bulb terminals into the socket in the same orientation as the old bulb. Secure the bulb with the spring clip or wire retainer, ensuring it seats fully and holds the bulb firmly in place.

   Reinstall bulb socket
   Insert the bulb socket assembly back into the fog light housing, aligning any indexing tabs. Rotate the socket clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into place. Confirm the socket is fully seated and will not rotate further.

   Reconnect electrical connector
   Push the electrical connector onto the bulb socket terminals until it clicks into place. Ensure the connector is fully seated and the locking tab engages.

   Test fog light operation
   Before lowering the vehicle, turn the ignition to the accessory or ON position, turn on the headlights or parking lights as required, and activate the fog light switch to verify the new bulb illuminates properly. Check for proper beam pattern and secure mounting.

Reassembly

1. Reinstall front wheel if removed and torque lug nuts to factory specification in a star pattern.
2. Raise vehicle slightly with floor jack, remove jack stands, then lower vehicle to ground.
3. Perform final fog light operation test to confirm repair.

Verification

• Fog light illuminates with proper brightness and beam pattern.
• Bulb socket is securely locked into housing with no rotation.
• Electrical connector is fully seated with locking tab engaged.
• No moisture or debris is present in fog light housing.
