Heated Seat Module

Replace the heated seat module on a 1992 Dodge Viper by accessing the module mounted under the driver or passenger seat, disconnecting the electrical connector, removing mounting fasteners, and installing the replacement module.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake.
2. Allow interior to cool if vehicle has been in sun (module may be warm).
3. Disconnect battery negative terminal and wait 2 minutes for system discharge.
4. Move seat to full rearward position for easier access to front mounting hardware.
5. Move seat to full forward position for easier access to rear mounting hardware if needed.

   Position Seat for Access
   Move the affected seat to the full rearward position using the manual seat adjustment lever. The 1992 Viper is equipped with manual seats only. This provides maximum access to the underside front area where the heated seat module is typically mounted.

   Locate Heated Seat Module
   Using a flashlight, inspect the underside of the seat frame. The heated seat module is typically a small rectangular box mounted to the seat frame structure, usually near the front or center section. It will have an electrical connector attached and may have a ground wire connection. Note the module orientation and mounting points before removal.

   Disconnect Module Electrical Connector
   Locate the wiring harness connector attached to the heated seat module. Press the release tab or locking mechanism on the connector and gently pull the connector away from the module. Do not pull on the wires themselves. Inspect connector terminals for corrosion or damage.

   Disconnect Ground Wire (if present)
   If the module has a separate ground wire or strap bolted to the seat frame or module housing, remove the fastener securing the ground connection. Note the exact location for reinstallation. Clean the contact surfaces of both the ground terminal and mounting point with a wire brush to ensure good electrical contact during reinstallation.

   Remove the 2 bolts securing the heated seat module to the seat frame structure. These are typically located on a mounting bracket attached to the module. Support the module with one hand while removing the final fastener to prevent it from falling.

   Carefully withdraw the heated seat module from its mounting location, routing any attached wiring clear of the seat frame. Inspect the mounting bracket and surrounding area for any debris, corrosion, or damage that should be addressed before installing the replacement module.

   Inspect Wiring and Connectors
   With the old module removed, inspect the vehicle-side wiring harness connector for bent pins, corrosion, or melted plastic. Check the ground wire terminal and seat frame ground point for corrosion. Clean or repair as necessary before installing the new module.

   Install Replacement Module
   Position the new heated seat module in the mounting location, ensuring it is oriented correctly to match the original installation. Align the mounting holes with the seat frame bracket. Start both mounting bolts by hand to ensure proper thread engagement before tightening.

   Reconnect Ground Wire
   If a separate ground wire is present, reconnect it to the module or seat frame using the original mounting location. Ensure both mating surfaces are clean and free of paint, corrosion, or debris for optimal electrical contact. Tighten the ground fastener to specification.

    Connect Module Electrical Connector
    Align the wiring harness connector with the new module's connector and press firmly until the locking tab clicks into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.

    Reconnect Battery and Test
    Reconnect the battery negative terminal and tighten to specification. Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine does not need to run). If a heated seat system is actually present, activate the heated seat switch and verify the seat begins to warm within 2-3 minutes. Check both heat settings if equipped with multi-position control.

Reassembly

1. Return seat to desired position after testing is complete.
2. Verify all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked.
3. Ensure no wiring is pinched or routed where it could be damaged by seat movement.

Verification

• With ignition ON, activate heated seat switch and verify indicator light illuminates (if equipped).
• After 2-3 minutes of operation, verify seat cushion is warming uniformly.
• Test both high and low heat settings if equipped with multi-position control.
• Move seat through full range of travel to verify no wiring interference or binding.
• Check for proper ground connection by verifying consistent heat output without intermittent operation.
