Side Mirror Assembly

Removal and replacement of the exterior side mirror assembly on a 1992 Dodge Viper, including disconnection of the mirror adjustment cable or electrical connector if equipped.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Roll down the window on the door where the mirror is being replaced to improve access to fasteners and prevent trim interference

Procedure

   Access Door Panel Interior
   Open the door fully. Locate the door panel edge at the mirror mounting area. The 1992 Viper uses a minimalist door panel with limited trim coverage. The mirror mounting area may be accessible from inside the door cavity near the upper front corner; verify the exact access method against the factory service manual for the 1992 Viper before proceeding. You may need to carefully pull back the edge of the door panel weatherstrip or inner seal to access the mirror mounting hardware.

   Remove Interior Door Panel Fasteners (if required)
   If your door configuration requires partial door panel removal to access the mirror mounting nuts, remove the Torx fasteners securing the door panel. On the 1992 Viper, check the door panel perimeter for retaining fasteners; verify the exact count and driver size against the factory service manual before removal. Remove only the fasteners necessary to pull back the upper front corner of the panel for mirror access. Full panel removal is not typically required.

Support the mirror assembly from the exterior while removing the final fastener to prevent it from falling.

   With all mounting fasteners removed and adjustment control disconnected, carefully pull the mirror assembly away from the door exterior. Guide any adjustment cable or wiring through the door opening as you withdraw the mirror. Inspect the door mounting surface and gasket/seal for damage.

   Prepare New Mirror Assembly
   Compare the new mirror assembly to the old unit to verify correct configuration (manual vs. electric adjustment, mounting stud pattern). If a mounting gasket or seal is included with the new mirror, position it on the mirror base. If reusing the original gasket, transfer it to the new mirror if in good condition.

   Install New Mirror Assembly
   From the exterior of the door, position the new mirror assembly against the door mounting surface, aligning the mounting studs with the holes in the door.    Install Mirror Mounting Fasteners
   From inside the door cavity, thread the 3 mounting nuts onto the mirror studs by hand. Once all nuts are started, tighten them in a star pattern (alternating between fasteners) to ensure even seating. Torque the mounting nuts to the value specified in the factory service manual for the 1992 Viper mirror studs (verify before use; do not overtighten). Do not overtighten, as this may crack the mirror base or distort the mounting surface.

   Reconnect Mirror Adjustment Control
   Connect the mirror adjustment mechanism. For manual cable adjustment, route the cable to the mirror base and snap it onto the ball socket or clip securely. Test mirror adjustment function to verify proper operation in all directions — using the interior control switch if electric, or by hand/cable actuation if manually adjusted.

    Reinstall Door Panel Components
    If any door panel fasteners or trim pieces were removed, reinstall them now. Position the door panel edge and weatherstrip back to their original locations. Install any Torx fasteners that were removed, tightening them securely but not over-torquing to avoid cracking the trim panel.

Reassembly

1. Installation is performed by reversing the removal steps as detailed above
2. Ensure all fasteners are torqued to specification to prevent mirror vibration or loosening during operation
