Sun Visor

Procedure for removing and replacing sun visor(s) on a 1992 Dodge Viper, including disconnection of vanity mirror lighting if equipped.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
2. If sun visor has vanity mirror lighting, disconnect battery negative terminal to prevent electrical shorts
3. Identify which visor requires replacement (driver side or passenger side)

Procedure

   Open vanity mirror cover if equipped
   The base 1992 Viper RT/10 visors are simple padded units without vanity mirrors or lighting. If, unusually, your visor has a mirror cover, flip it open to inspect for any wiring; otherwise proceed to the mounting steps. If the visor has no mirror or lighting, proceed to step 3.

   Disconnect vanity mirror light connector
   Locate the small electrical connector for the vanity mirror light. Press the release tab and gently pull the connector apart to disconnect the lighting circuit. Allow the connector to hang freely from the headliner wiring.

   Remove visor pivot mounting bracket cover
   At the main pivot point where the visor attaches to the headliner near the windshield header, locate the plastic decorative cover over the mounting bracket. Gently pry this cover downward or rotate it as designed to expose the mounting screws underneath. If a decorative cover is present, it is typically a snap-fit or rotating cap; verify the exact retention method against the factory service manual before prying.

   Remove visor pivot mounting screws
   Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the 2 screws securing the visor pivot bracket to the windshield header mounting point. Support the visor with your other hand to prevent it from dropping once fasteners are removed.

   Remove auxiliary support rod clip if present
   Some visors may have a secondary support hook that engages a clip on the windshield header when the visor is rotated to the side. If your Viper's visor has such a hook, disengage it before removal; note that the base 1992 RT/10 uses a very simple visor without this feature. Rotate the visor to access this clip, then gently pull the rod end out of its mounting receptacle. The rod is typically permanently attached to the visor body.

   Remove visor assembly
   With all fasteners and connectors released, carefully lower the sun visor assembly away from the headliner. If there is residual wiring for vanity lighting, guide the connector and wire through the headliner opening as you remove the visor.

   Prepare replacement visor
   Inspect the new sun visor to ensure it matches the original configuration (with or without vanity mirror, correct color and material). If equipped with lighting, route the electrical connector up through the headliner opening before mounting the bracket.

   Install visor pivot bracket
   Align the replacement visor pivot bracket with the mounting holes in the windshield header. Start both mounting screws by hand to ensure proper thread engagement, then snug both screws firmly by hand with a Phillips screwdriver until seated; no published torque spec is available, so tighten just enough to hold the bracket securely without stripping the mounting point (verify with the factory service manual if a spec is required). Do not overtighten as the mounting points are into plastic or thin metal.

   Reinstall auxiliary support rod
   Rotate the visor to the side window position and insert the support rod end into its receptacle on the roof headliner. Press firmly until the clip engages and the rod is secure. Test rotation of the visor to ensure the rod pivots smoothly.

    Reconnect vanity mirror lighting if equipped
    If the visor has vanity mirror lighting, align the electrical connector halves and press together until the locking tab clicks into place. Ensure the wiring is not pinched or stressed.

    Reinstall pivot bracket cover
    Snap the decorative cover back over the visor pivot mounting bracket, ensuring all clips engage fully and the cover sits flush against the headliner.

Reassembly

1. Reconnect battery negative terminal if it was disconnected
2. Test vanity mirror lighting operation if equipped by opening the mirror cover
3. Verify visor rotates smoothly through all positions (down, up, and side window) without binding

Verification

• Operate sun visor through full range of motion to confirm secure mounting at pivot point and auxiliary support rod
• If equipped with vanity mirror lighting, open mirror cover and verify light illuminates properly
• Inspect all mounting points for gaps or misalignment; decorative covers should sit flush with headliner
• Verify visor stays in position when rotated to side window and does not sag or fall
