Power Window Motor - Front

Remove the front door panel, disconnect the power window motor electrical connector and linkage, unbolt and remove the motor, then install the new motor and reassemble the door trim.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Roll the affected window fully UP before beginning work
3. Use masking tape to secure the window glass in the UP position from the outside of the door
4. Ensure you have adequate lighting to see inside the door cavity

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove door panel armrest fasteners
   Remove the 2 Phillips screws located in the armrest pull cup. These screws secure the armrest assembly to the door structure. Set screws aside in a labeled container.

   Remove door handle trim and fasteners
   Carefully pry out the interior door handle trim bezel using a trim tool. Behind the bezel, locate and remove 1 Torx screw securing the handle assembly. The bezel pulls straight out once pressure is released.

   Remove door panel perimeter fasteners
   Locate and remove all door panel retaining screws around the perimeter. The 1992 Viper uses a combination of Torx screws (typically T20 or T25) along the bottom edge and rear edge of the panel. Remove 5 perimeter screws total.

   Release door panel clips and lift panel
   Starting at the bottom rear corner, use a trim tool to gently release the plastic retaining clips that secure the door panel to the door frame. Work your way around the perimeter, releasing approximately 6-8 clips. Once all clips are released, lift the door panel UP to clear the door latch assembly, then pull it away from the door.

   Disconnect door panel electrical connectors
   With the door panel partially removed, disconnect any electrical connectors for the power window switch. Note the base 1992 Viper roadster typically uses manual mirrors, so a power mirror connector may not be present. Press the locking tab on each connector and pull straight apart. Set the door panel aside on a clean, padded surface.

   Peel back moisture barrier
   Carefully peel back the plastic moisture barrier sheet from the door frame. This is typically held by adhesive or clips. Peel only as much as necessary to access the window motor mounting area at the bottom of the door. Do not tear the barrier.

   Disconnect window motor electrical connector
   Locate the power window motor at the bottom of the door cavity. Disconnect the electrical connector from the motor by pressing the locking tab and pulling the connector straight off. The motor is typically positioned near the front lower corner of the door.

   Disconnect window regulator linkage from motor
   Locate the regulator arm connection to the motor drive gear or cable drum. Use needle-nose pliers to remove the retaining clip securing the linkage arm to the motor output. Carefully separate the regulator arm from the motor drive mechanism. Note the orientation for reinstallation.

   Remove window motor mounting bolts
   Remove the 3 mounting bolts securing the window motor to the door frame using a 10mm socket. Support the motor with one hand as you remove the final bolt. Carefully extract the motor through the access opening in the door frame.
   Torque spec

   Module Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)

    Install new window motor
    Position the new window motor in the door cavity and align it with the mounting holes in the door frame. Start all 3 mounting bolts by hand to ensure proper thread engagement. Tighten the mounting bolts in a cross pattern to 9.0 Nm (7 lb-ft).

    Reconnect regulator linkage and electrical connector
    Reconnect the regulator arm to the motor output shaft or cable drum in the same orientation as removal. Install the retaining clip to secure the connection. Plug in the electrical connector to the motor until the locking tab clicks into place.

    Test window motor operation
    Before reinstalling the door panel, remove the masking tape from the window glass. Turn the ignition to the RUN position and test the window motor by operating the window switch through full UP and DOWN cycles. Verify smooth operation with no binding or unusual noises. If operation is incorrect, check linkage connections and motor orientation.

    Reinstall moisture barrier and door panel
    Press the moisture barrier back into place, ensuring complete adhesion around the perimeter. Reconnect the electrical connector for the power window switch (and mirror switch if equipped). Position the door panel over the door latch assembly and lower it into place. Press firmly around the perimeter to engage all retaining clips.

    Install door panel fasteners
    Reinstall all 5 perimeter Torx screws around the door panel edges. Install the Torx screw behind the door handle trim bezel, then snap the bezel back into place. Install the 2 Phillips screws in the armrest pull cup.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all door panel clips are fully seated before driving to prevent rattles
2. Verify the moisture barrier is properly sealed to prevent water intrusion into the door cavity
3. Test window operation multiple times to confirm proper installation and smooth travel

Verification

• Operate the window through multiple full UP and DOWN cycles to verify smooth, quiet operation
• Check that the window seats properly in the fully UP position with no gaps
• Verify the door panel is secure with no rattles or loose fasteners
• Confirm all door switches and controls function properly
