Window Motor and Regulator - Front

Complete removal and replacement of the front door window motor and regulator assembly, including door panel removal, glass support, and electrical disconnection.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait 2 minutes before proceeding
3. Roll window to full up position if motor is still functional; if not, support glass from falling during disassembly

Procedure

   Remove door panel screws
   Locate and remove the Torx screws securing the door panel. The exact number and location of door panel fasteners must be verified against a Viper service manual before removal, as this vehicle's minimalist door construction differs from typical passenger cars. Inspect the panel perimeter for any additional fasteners specific to this trim configuration.

   Disconnect door latch handle
   Locate the door latch release cable connection at the interior door handle. Slide the cable end off the handle lever by lifting the cable housing retainer and pulling the cable forward to disengage it from the handle mechanism.

   Release door panel clips and remove panel
   Using a trim panel removal tool, carefully pry around the perimeter of the door panel to release the plastic retaining clips from the door frame. Work from bottom to top. Once all clips are released, lift the panel upward to clear the door latch mechanism, then pull away from the door. Set panel aside on a protected surface.

   Disconnect window switch connector
   The 1992 Viper RT/10 has no power window switch or door-mounted glass; there is no window switch connector to disconnect on this vehicle. Press the locking tab and disconnect the connector. Set the door panel completely aside.

   Peel back moisture barrier
   Carefully peel back the plastic moisture barrier sheeting to expose the inner door structure. Work slowly to avoid tearing the barrier, as it must be resealed during reassembly. Only peel back enough to access the regulator and motor mounting area.

   Support window glass
   If the window is not already in the full up position, carefully raise it manually or have an assistant hold it up. Secure the glass in the up position using masking tape from the glass to the outer door frame, or use a block of wood wedged between the glass and the door frame bottom. This prevents the glass from falling once disconnected from the regulator.

   Disconnect window motor electrical connector
   Locate the window motor electrical connector inside the door cavity. Press the locking tab and disconnect the connector from the motor. Move the wiring harness aside to provide clearance for motor removal.

   Disconnect glass from regulator
   Access the window glass mounting bolts through the access holes in the inner door structure. Remove the 2 bolts securing the glass to the regulator lift mechanism using a 10mm socket. The glass should now be free from the regulator and held only by your temporary support.

   Window motor fastener count and drive size cannot be verified for this vehicle and must be confirmed against a Viper service manual; note the 1992 RT/10 has no power window motor. Support the motor as you remove the final bolt to prevent it from dropping.

    Reconnect window motor connector
    Connect the electrical connector to the window motor, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place. Verify the connection is secure by gently tugging on the connector.

    Test window operation before final assembly
    The 1992 Viper RT/10 has no power window motor or switch, so there is no window operation to test on this vehicle. Verify smooth operation with no binding, unusual noises, or hesitation. If operation is satisfactory, disconnect the battery again and proceed with reassembly. If not, troubleshoot before sealing the door.

    Reconnect glass to regulator
    Lower the window glass into position and align the glass mounting holes with the regulator lift mechanism attachment points. Install the 2 mounting bolts and torque to specification. Verify the glass is seated properly and moves freely.

    Reseal moisture barrier and install door panel
    Carefully press the moisture barrier back into position, ensuring it adheres properly to the door frame to maintain the moisture seal. Reconnect the window switch connector to the door panel. Position the door panel over the door latch mechanism and lower into place. Press firmly around the perimeter to engage all retaining clips. Reconnect the door latch cable to the handle mechanism. Install and torque all door panel screws to specification.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked before final testing
2. Verify the moisture barrier is properly sealed to prevent water intrusion

Verification

• Reconnect negative battery cable permanently
