Power Mirror Motor

Replace the power mirror motor assembly on a 2005 Dodge Viper by removing the interior door trim panel, disconnecting the electrical connector, and replacing the defective motor unit.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition

Procedure

   Remove door trim panel fasteners
   Locate and remove the Torx screws securing the door trim panel. Locate all door trim panel fasteners (screw count, type, and locations must be confirmed against the 2005 Viper FSM), checking near the door handle, pull cup, lower edge, and behind any trim covers or in recessed areas for hidden fasteners.    Release door trim panel clips
   Using trim panel removal tools, carefully pry around the perimeter of the door trim panel to release the retaining clips. Start at the bottom rear corner and work your way around. Pull outward with steady pressure once clips begin releasing. The panel will separate from the door frame.
   ⚠Work slowly and listen for clip release. Forcing the panel can break clips or crack the trim piece.

   Disconnect door trim electrical connectors
   With the door trim panel loose, reach behind and disconnect any electrical connectors for power windows, power locks, or interior door handles. Press the release tab on each connector and pull straight out. Lift the door trim panel up and away from the door to fully remove it. Set aside on a protected surface.

   Remove vapor barrier access
   If a plastic vapor barrier covers the mirror motor area, carefully peel back or remove the section covering the mirror mounting location. Some barriers have a pre-cut access flap; others may require careful cutting with a utility knife. Preserve the barrier material for reinstallation.

   Disconnect mirror electrical connector
   Locate the electrical connector for the power mirror assembly inside the door cavity. Press the connector release tab and disconnect the harness from the mirror motor. Note the routing of the wire harness for reinstallation.

   Remove mirror mounting fasteners
   From inside the door cavity, locate the fasteners securing the mirror assembly to the door (count and type must be confirmed against the 2005 Viper FSM). Remove all fasteners while supporting the mirror from the outside to prevent it from falling.
   ⚠Have a helper support the mirror from outside, or use tape to secure it temporarily while removing the last fastener.

   Remove mirror assembly
   Carefully pull the mirror assembly away from the door exterior. Guide the wiring harness through the door opening. If only replacing the motor, proceed to separate the motor from the mirror housing. If replacing the complete assembly, retain any gaskets or seals for transfer to the new unit.

   Separate mirror motor from housing (if applicable)
   If the motor is separately serviceable (confirm against the 2005 Viper parts catalog; many mirrors are replaced only as a complete assembly), remove the screws securing the motor to the back of the mirror housing. The motor is typically held by small Torx or Phillips screws. Disconnect any internal wiring clips between the motor and mirror heater or position sensors. Remove the old motor.

   Install new mirror motor
   Position the new mirror motor into the mirror housing, aligning the drive mechanism with the mirror adjustment mechanism. Reconnect any internal wiring for heater or position sensors.     Install mirror assembly to door
    Feed the wiring harness through the door opening from outside. Position the mirror assembly against the door exterior, aligning the mounting holes. Install the 3 mounting fasteners from inside the door cavity and tighten securely. Verify the mirror sits flush against the door with no gaps.

    Reconnect electrical connector
    Plug the mirror electrical connector back into the harness inside the door cavity. Ensure the connector clicks fully into place and the locking tab engages. Route the harness to avoid interference with window regulator or door latch mechanisms.

    Test mirror operation
    Before reinstalling the door trim, turn the ignition to the accessory position and test all mirror functions. Verify up/down and left/right adjustment in both directions. Test the power-folding function if equipped. Check mirror heater operation if applicable. Address any issues before proceeding.

    Reinstall vapor barrier
    Reposition the vapor barrier over the door cavity, ensuring it seals properly around the edges. If adhesive has weakened, use butyl tape or weatherstrip adhesive to reseal. Ensure the barrier does not interfere with any moving components inside the door.

    Reinstall door trim panel
    Reconnect all electrical connectors for power windows, locks, and door handles. Position the door trim panel over the door frame, aligning the mounting holes. Press firmly around the perimeter to engage all retaining clips. Install the Torx screws in their original locations and tighten to proper torque. Snap any trim covers back into place.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked before securing trim panels
2. Verify all trim panel clips are properly engaged by gently pulling on the panel edges
3. Test window operation after reinstalling door trim to ensure no interference

Verification

• Turn ignition to accessory position and test all mirror adjustment directions (up, down, left, right)
• Test power-folding function if equipped by cycling the mirror in and out
• Verify mirror heater operation if applicable by running for 2-3 minutes and checking for heat
• Check that door trim panel is secure with no rattles or loose sections
• Verify window operates smoothly through full travel without binding
