Complete 30,000 mile scheduled maintenance service including oil change, filter replacements, fluid inspections, and multi-point inspection for the 2008 Dodge Viper with 8.4L V10 engine.

Fluids

• 0W-40 full synthetic engine oil — 11 qt
• Mopar HOAT coolant 50/50
• DOT 4 brake fluid
• Mopar ATF+4 power steering fluid

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Allow engine to cool completely (minimum 2 hours after operation)
3. Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
4. Gather all required fluids, filters, and tools
5. Verify you have 11 quarts of 0W-40 full synthetic oil available

Procedure

1. 1

   Raise and support vehicle
   Raise the front of the vehicle using a floor jack at the front crossmember jacking point. Support with jack stands at the manufacturer-designated side jacking points behind the front wheels. Raise the rear of the vehicle at the rear differential and support at the side jacking points forward of the rear wheels. Verify all four jack stands are secure and vehicle is stable before working underneath.

   Drain engine oil
   Locate the oil drain plug on the oil pan (verify exact location against factory service manual). Position drain pan underneath. Remove the drain plug using appropriate socket and allow oil to drain completely (approximately 10-15 minutes due to large capacity). Inspect drain plug threads and washer for damage. Clean drain plug and install with washer, tightening securely. Note: The exact drain plug torque specification should be verified against factory service manual.
   ⚠Hot oil can cause severe burns. Ensure engine is completely cool before draining.

   Replace oil filter
   Locate the oil filter on the driver side of the engine block, accessible from underneath. Position drain pan beneath filter. Use oil filter wrench to remove old filter by turning counterclockwise. Clean the filter mounting surface on the block. Apply thin coat of clean engine oil to the gasket of the new filter. Install new filter hand-tight, then tighten an additional 3/4 turn. Do not over-tighten.

   Fill engine with oil
   Lower vehicle if needed for easier access to engine bay. Locate the oil filler cap on the valve cover (verify exact location against factory service manual). Using a funnel, add oil in increments (verify total capacity against factory service manual — do NOT assume 11 quarts) of 0W-40 full synthetic oil, checking the dipstick frequently to avoid overfilling. Wait 2 minutes for oil to settle, then check dipstick. Add remaining oil in small increments until level reaches the full mark on dipstick. Install oil filler cap securely.

   Replace engine air filter
   Open hood and locate air filter housing on the driver side of the engine bay. Release the housing clips securing the air filter cover. Lift cover and remove old air filter element. Inspect housing for debris and clean if necessary. Install new air filter element ensuring proper seating. Close cover and secure all clips.

   Inspect cabin air filter (if equipped)
   Check if vehicle is equipped with cabin air filter by inspecting behind the glove box area or under the cowl panel near the windshield base. If equipped, access the filter housing, remove old filter, and replace with new unit following housing markings for proper airflow direction. If not equipped, skip this step.

   Inspect all fluid levels
   Check and top off the following fluids as needed: engine coolant (inspect overflow reservoir level when cold - should be between MIN and MAX marks), brake fluid (reservoir located on master cylinder - should be at MAX mark), power steering fluid (reservoir on pump - check with engine cold), and windshield washer fluid. Inspect coolant and brake fluid condition for contamination or discoloration.

   Inspect drive belt
   With engine off and cool, visually inspect the serpentine drive belt for cracks, fraying, glazing, or chunks missing from ribs. Check belt tension by pressing on the belt between pulleys - deflection should be minimal (approximately 1/4 inch). Inspect all pulleys for proper alignment and smooth rotation.

   Inspect brake system
   With vehicle still raised, inspect brake pads at all four corners for remaining thickness (minimum 3mm pad material). Inspect brake rotors for scoring, warping, or excessive wear. Check brake lines and hoses for cracks, leaks, or damage. Verify caliper slides are not seized and calipers move freely.

    Inspect suspension and steering components
    Inspect front and rear suspension components for damage, wear, or leaks. Check shock absorbers for leaking oil. Inspect control arm bushings for cracking or deterioration. Check tie rod ends and ball joints for excessive play. Inspect sway bar links and bushings. Look for any loose or missing fasteners.

    Inspect exhaust system
    Visually inspect entire exhaust system from manifolds to tips for cracks, holes, or damage. Check all hangers and mounts for security. Look for signs of exhaust leaks (soot deposits). Verify heat shields are secure and not contacting the exhaust.

    Inspect tires and set pressures
    Inspect all four tires for tread depth (minimum 3/32 inch), uneven wear patterns, cuts, bulges, or sidewall damage. Check and adjust tire pressures to the specification listed on the driver-side door jamb placard for this specific vehicle (do not rely on generic values). Rotate tires if wear pattern indicates need and if not contradicted by directional tires or staggered fitment.

    Lower vehicle and start engine
    Remove jack stands and carefully lower vehicle to ground. Start engine and allow to idle. Monitor for oil pressure on gauge (should rise immediately). Check for oil leaks around filter and drain plug. Allow engine to reach operating temperature while monitoring for any unusual noises or warning lights.

    Verify oil level and check for leaks
    After engine has run for 2-3 minutes, shut off and wait 2 minutes for oil to settle. Check oil level on dipstick - should be at full mark. Add oil if needed. Perform final inspection underneath vehicle for any oil leaks at drain plug and filter. Wipe up any spilled oil.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all fluid caps and dipsticks are reinstalled securely
2. Verify air filter housing is properly closed and latched
3. Confirm no tools or rags are left in engine compartment
4. Close hood and verify proper latch engagement

Verification

• Engine oil level reads full on dipstick when checked after running and settling
• No oil leaks visible at drain plug or oil filter after test drive
• All warning lights extinguished after startup
• Engine runs smoothly with normal oil pressure
• All fluid levels at proper marks
• Tire pressures set to specification
• No unusual noises from engine or undercarriage
• Service interval reset if applicable (consult owner's manual for reset procedure)
