Armrest

Remove and replace the center console armrest assembly in a 2008 Dodge Viper, including detachment of mounting hardware and any integrated storage compartments.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Turn ignition off and remove key
3. Allow interior to cool if vehicle has been in sun (plastic clips can be brittle when hot)

Procedure

1. 1

   Access armrest mounting fasteners
   Open the armrest storage compartment fully. Inspect the interior floor and sides of the storage bin for Torx fasteners. The 2008 Viper typically uses 2-3 Torx fasteners accessible from inside the storage compartment securing the armrest to the console frame.

   Remove armrest mounting fasteners
   Using the T25 Torx driver, remove the 2-3 fasteners from inside the armrest storage compartment. Place fasteners in a container to prevent loss. Note the location of each fastener for reassembly.

   Check for rear hinge or pivot fasteners
   Examine the rear of the armrest assembly where it hinges to the console. Look for additional T20 or T25 Torx fasteners securing the hinge bracket to the console structure. If present, remove these fasteners.

   Release armrest trim clips
   Starting at the front of the armrest assembly, gently pry upward using the trim panel removal tool to disengage any retention clips securing the armrest base to the console. Work progressively from front to rear, applying even upward pressure. The armrest may have 2-4 plastic clips along its perimeter.

   Lift armrest assembly clear
   Once all fasteners and clips are released, lift the armrest assembly straight up and away from the console. Tilt as needed to clear the gear shift lever and any surrounding trim. Inspect the mounting area for any remaining clips or hardware attached to the old armrest.

   Inspect mounting points and hardware
   Examine the console frame mounting points for damage or broken clip receptacles. Check all fasteners removed for thread integrity. If any plastic clips remain in the console receptacles, remove them and transfer to the new armrest if reusable.

   Position new armrest assembly
   Align the new armrest assembly over the console mounting points, ensuring any hinge brackets or pivot points are correctly positioned at the rear. Tilt the armrest to clear the shift lever and lower it into place, aligning clip locations with their receptacles.

   Secure armrest clips and fasteners
   Press down firmly on the armrest perimeter to engage all retention clips until you hear or feel them snap into place. Install the interior storage compartment fasteners first using the T25 Torx driver, then install any rear hinge fasteners. Tighten all fasteners snugly but do not overtighten plastic-threaded receptacles.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all retention clips are fully seated and the armrest does not lift or rock when pressure is applied
2. Verify the armrest opens and closes smoothly without binding on surrounding trim or the shift lever
3. Check that storage compartment lid (if equipped) operates correctly and latches securely

Verification

• Open and close the armrest multiple times to confirm smooth operation and secure mounting
• Apply moderate downward pressure to the closed armrest to verify it does not flex or move
• Inspect all gaps around the armrest perimeter to ensure even fitment with surrounding console trim
• Confirm no rattles or loose fasteners when pressing on various areas of the armrest
