Blower Motor Control Module

Remove and replace the blower motor control module (also known as the blower motor resistor or power module) located in the HVAC system to restore proper climate control fan operation.

Preparation

1. Ensure the vehicle is parked on level ground with the engine off and ignition key removed
2. Allow the climate control system to cool if it has been in use recently
3. Set the parking brake

Procedure

1. 1

   Disconnect battery negative terminal
   Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during the procedure. The battery is located in the engine compartment. Use a 10mm wrench or socket to loosen the negative terminal clamp and remove the cable from the battery post.

   Access passenger footwell area
   Move the passenger seat fully rearward and upward to maximize access to the footwell area. The blower motor control module is mounted on the HVAC case on the passenger side, typically near the firewall below the glove box area.

   Locate the blower motor control module
   Lying on your back in the passenger footwell, locate the blower motor control module. It is mounted to the side of the HVAC housing near the blower motor itself, with a multi-pin electrical connector attached. The module typically has cooling fins visible and is secured with fasteners.

   Disconnect electrical connector
   Press the locking tab on the electrical connector and carefully pull the connector straight off the blower motor control module. Note the connector orientation for reinstallation. Do not force the connector; if it resists, verify the locking tab is fully released.

   Remove control module mounting fasteners
   Remove the fasteners securing the blower motor control module to the HVAC case. These are typically 2 screws accessible with a 7mm socket or nut driver. Support the module while removing the final fastener to prevent it from falling.

   Remove blower motor control module
   Once the fasteners are removed, carefully withdraw the blower motor control module from its mounting location. Note the orientation and position of any sealing materials or gaskets for proper reinstallation of the new module.

   Install new blower motor control module
   Position the new blower motor control module in the mounting location, ensuring any sealing surfaces or gaskets are properly aligned. Verify the module is oriented correctly with the electrical connector terminal facing the proper direction for easy connection.

   Install mounting fasteners
   Install and hand-tighten the 2 mounting fasteners, then snug them securely with the 7mm socket. Do not overtighten as the module housing may be plastic or the mounting points may be threaded into plastic. Fasteners should be firm but not torqued excessively.

   Reconnect electrical connector
   Align the electrical connector with the terminals on the blower motor control module and press firmly until the locking tab clicks into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.

    Reconnect battery
    Return to the engine compartment and reconnect the negative battery terminal. Tighten the terminal clamp securely with a 10mm wrench.

Reassembly

1. Return the passenger seat to its original position
2. Ensure all electrical connections are secure and no tools or parts have been left in the footwell area

Verification

• Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine does not need to be running)
• Test the blower motor at all fan speed settings (low, medium-low, medium, medium-high, and high) to verify proper operation at each speed
• Verify smooth operation with no unusual noise, hesitation, or failure to operate at any speed setting
• Test both heat and A/C modes to confirm the blower motor responds correctly in all climate control configurations
• Check for any burning smell or excessive heat from the module area during initial operation
