Bumper Cover - Front

Procedure for removing and reinstalling the front bumper cover on a 2008 Dodge Viper with 8.4L V10 engine, including fascia release, fender liner access, and clip/fastener removal.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and apply parking brake
2. Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
3. Allow engine and exhaust system to cool completely if vehicle was recently driven
4. Disconnect negative battery terminal to prevent accidental electrical shorts if working near fog lights or sensors
5. Raise front of vehicle with floor jack and support securely on jack stands at manufacturer-specified lift points
6. Remove both front wheels to access fender liner fasteners
7. If preserving alignment, apply masking tape across bumper-to-fender seams and mark alignment reference points before removal

Procedure

   Access and remove front fender liner fasteners
   Working in the front wheel wells, locate and remove the fender liner fasteners that secure the bumper cover sides. Remove the fender liner fasteners (verify exact count and type against the OEM service manual) along the inner fender well edge where the bumper cover meets the liner. Gently pull back the fender liner to expose the bumper cover mounting points behind it.

   Remove lower bumper cover fasteners
   Working from underneath the front of the vehicle, locate the lower bumper cover mounting fasteners along the bottom edge. Remove the lower bumper cover fasteners (verify exact count against the OEM service manual) securing the lower edge of the bumper cover to the radiator support and subframe structure. These are typically Torx screws or push-type retainers.

   Remove upper grille and radiator support fasteners
   Open the hood and locate the upper bumper cover fasteners along the top edge of the radiator support. Remove the upper bumper cover fasteners (verify exact count against the OEM service manual) across the top of the bumper cover where it meets the hood latch panel. These fasteners typically secure the grille and bumper cover assembly to the upper radiator support.

   Disconnect fog light connectors (if equipped)
   The factory 2008 Viper front fascia does not include integrated fog lights; if the vehicle has aftermarket lighting mounted in the cover, disconnect any associated electrical connectors before removal. Press the release tab on each connector and pull straight back to separate. Route the wiring harness free from any clips on the bumper cover.

   Release bumper cover side mounting points
   Locate the side mounting points where the bumper cover wraps around and attaches to the fender edges. Remove the side mounting fasteners (verify exact count per side against the OEM service manual) at the fender-to-bumper interface near the wheel well opening. These fasteners are typically accessed from the side of the bumper cover.

   Check for additional hidden fasteners and clips
   Before attempting to pull the bumper cover away, verify all fasteners have been removed by gently tugging at various points along the cover. Check behind the fender liner areas, along the lower edge, and at the headlight interfaces for any remaining clips or fasteners that may have been missed. The Viper may use additional hidden clips at the headlight mounting areas.

   Release bumper cover from fender and headlight clips
   Starting at one side, gently pull the bumper cover forward to disengage it from the alignment clips at the fender and headlight assembly interfaces. The cover uses locating tabs that slide into receivers on the fender and headlight housings. Apply steady, even pressure while working your way across to the opposite side. Do not force; if resistance is encountered, verify all fasteners are removed.

   Remove front bumper cover from vehicle
   With a helper supporting the opposite end, pull the bumper cover straight forward and away from the vehicle. Lift slightly to clear any lower alignment pins or tabs. Carefully maneuver the cover free from the vehicle and place on a padded surface to prevent scratches. Inspect mounting tabs on the cover and corresponding clips on the vehicle for damage.

Reassembly

1. Clean all mounting surfaces on the radiator support, fenders, and bumper cover mounting points before installation
2. Inspect all clips, retainers, and mounting tabs for damage; replace any broken fasteners before proceeding
3. Install bumper cover by reversing removal steps, starting with aligning the cover to the fender and headlight interfaces
4. Ensure all alignment tabs and clips engage properly before installing fasteners; use masking tape reference marks if applied during removal
5. Reconnect fog light electrical connectors (if equipped) before fully securing the cover
6. Install fasteners hand-tight initially, then verify panel gaps and alignment at fenders and hood before final tightening
7. Tighten all fasteners in sequence: upper radiator support first, then sides, then lower edge to ensure even seating
8. Reinstall fender liners and secure with original fasteners
9. Reinstall front wheels and torque to manufacturer specification
10. Lower vehicle from jack stands and remove supports
11. Reconnect negative battery terminal
12. Verify all panel gaps are even and bumper cover is securely mounted with no loose areas

Verification

• Walk around the front of the vehicle and inspect all panel gaps between bumper cover, fenders, and hood for uniformity
• Gently push on various points of the bumper cover to verify it is securely fastened with no flex or loose sections
• Verify fog lights function correctly if equipped (reconnect battery first)
• Check that all fender liner fasteners are secure and liners are properly seated
• Confirm no fasteners or tools were left in the engine bay or wheel wells
