Bumper Reinforcement - Front

Removal and replacement of the front bumper reinforcement bar on a 2008 Dodge Viper, including fascia removal and component transfer.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on a level surface and apply parking brake.
2. Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
3. Disconnect negative battery cable to prevent electrical issues during work.
4. Raise front of vehicle using floor jack and support securely on jack stands under manufacturer-specified lift points.
5. Remove front wheels to improve access to fascia mounting points and fender liner fasteners.
6. If vehicle has sustained impact damage, inspect surrounding structure for additional damage before proceeding.

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove front fender liner fasteners
   Working in the front wheel wells on both sides, locate and remove the plastic push clips and fasteners securing the front portion of the fender liner to the fascia and wheel well. These are typically plastic push-type fasteners that may require prying the center pin up before removal. Remove enough fasteners to allow the liner to be pulled back for fascia access.

   Remove front fascia lower fasteners
   From underneath the front of the vehicle, locate and remove the fasteners securing the bottom edge of the front fascia. Verify the exact number and type of lower fascia fasteners against the factory service manual before removal, as the count is not confirmed for this vehicle.    Remove front fascia upper fasteners
   Open the hood and locate the fasteners at the top edge of the front fascia where it meets the front-end structure. Refer to the factory service manual for the exact fastener locations on this vehicle. Verify the exact number and type of upper fascia fasteners against the factory service manual before removal, as the count is not confirmed for this vehicle.

   Disconnect fog lamp connectors
   If equipped with fog lamps, reach behind the fascia on both sides and disconnect the electrical connectors from the fog lamp assemblies. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight off. Mark connector orientation if needed for reassembly.

   Remove front fascia
   With all fasteners removed, carefully pull the bottom of the fascia forward first, then work around the sides. The fascia may have alignment tabs that fit into the fender edges. Support the fascia as you work it free. Once clear, place the fascia on a padded surface face-down to prevent scratches. Inspect the back side for any additional clips or brackets that may need to be transferred to the new reinforcement. Note: The front bumper fascia is a flexible composite/plastic panel and can crack or deform if excessive force is applied during removal. Support the fascia with a clean padded surface when removed.

   Remove fog lamp assemblies if equipped
   If fog lamps are mounted in brackets attached to the reinforcement bar, remove the fasteners securing each fog lamp assembly. These typically use 2 bolts or screws per side. Set assemblies aside with fascia for later transfer.

   Remove bumper reinforcement mounting bolts
   Locate the mounting bolts securing the reinforcement bar to the frame rails on both sides. Locate the mounting bolts securing the reinforcement bar to the chassis/frame structure on both sides. Verify the exact bolt count and head size against the factory service manual before removal, as these are not confirmed for the Viper's tubular space-frame chassis.    Remove front bumper reinforcement
   With all mounting bolts removed, carefully lower the reinforcement bar away from the frame rails. The bar may have locating pins or tabs that need to be disengaged. Inspect the mounting points on the frame rails for damage or corrosion before installing the new reinforcement.

   Transfer components to new reinforcement
   If fog lamp brackets, mounting hardware, or other components are attached to the old reinforcement and are reusable, remove them and install them on the new reinforcement bar in the same positions and orientations. Ensure all hardware is properly seated.

    Install new bumper reinforcement
    Position the new reinforcement bar to the frame rail mounting points, aligning the mounting holes and any locating pins. Start all mounting bolts by hand before tightening. Verify the reinforcement is centered and level, then tighten the 4 mounting bolts evenly in a cross pattern. Torque to manufacturer specification if available, otherwise tighten securely.

    Reinstall fog lamp assemblies
    If fog lamps were removed, reinstall them to their mounting brackets on the reinforcement bar using the original fasteners. Ensure they are properly aligned and oriented before final tightening.

    Reinstall front fascia
    Carefully position the front fascia back onto the vehicle, starting with the upper edge and working it over the reinforcement bar. Align the side tabs with the fender edges and ensure the fascia seats properly against all mounting points. The fascia should fit flush with no gaps. Reinstall all upper fasteners first to hold position.

    Secure fascia and reconnect components
    Reinstall the lower fascia fasteners underneath the vehicle, ensuring all 6 fasteners are properly seated. Reconnect the fog lamp electrical connectors if equipped. Reinstall the fender liner fasteners in both wheel wells. Verify all fasteners are secure and the fascia is properly aligned with consistent gaps around the hood and fenders.

Reassembly

1. Reinstall front wheels and torque lug nuts to manufacturer specification.
2. Lower vehicle from jack stands and remove jack.
3. Reconnect negative battery cable.
4. Verify all panel gaps are even and fascia is properly aligned before final inspection.

Verification

• Visually inspect fascia alignment and panel gaps around hood and fenders for uniformity.
• Check that all fasteners are installed and tight with no loose components.
• Test fog lamps if equipped to verify proper electrical connection.
• Gently pull on fascia at several points to confirm it is securely mounted.
• Inspect reinforcement bar mounting area from underneath to confirm proper installation and torque.
