Door Handle - Interior

Remove and replace the interior door handle assembly on a 2008 Dodge Viper, including removal of the door trim panel to access the handle mounting hardware.

Preparation

Procedure

   Locate the fasteners securing the interior door handle assembly to the door frame (count and drive type to be verified against factory service documentation). These are typically accessed from the interior side of the door structure. Remove both fasteners completely and retain them for reinstallation.

   Remove interior door handle assembly
   With the mounting fasteners removed and the linkage disconnected, carefully pull the interior door handle assembly away from the door panel mounting location. You may need to angle or rotate the handle slightly to clear any mounting tabs or guides. Inspect the old handle for wear or damage to confirm replacement is necessary.

   Install new interior door handle assembly
   Position the new interior door handle assembly into the door frame mounting location. Align the mounting holes with the door structure, ensuring the handle lever is oriented correctly for the door latch rod connection. Insert and hand-tighten the 2 mounting fasteners to hold the handle in position.

   Reconnect door latch rod
   Reconnect the door latch rod to the new interior door handle assembly. Ensure the rod clips securely into the handle lever mechanism and is properly seated. Verify the rod routing matches the original configuration and does not bind or contact any sharp edges.

    Test door handle operation
    Before reinstalling the door panel, operate the new interior door handle several times to verify smooth operation and proper door latch engagement. The door should open easily without binding or excessive force. Check that the handle returns to its rest position after each pull.

    Reinstall moisture barrier
    If the moisture barrier was peeled back, press it firmly back into position ensuring good adhesive contact. Smooth out any wrinkles or air pockets. If the adhesive has lost effectiveness, apply fresh weatherstrip adhesive to ensure a proper seal.

    Reinstall door panel
    Reconnect all electrical connectors for switches and lights. Position the door panel near the door frame and align it with the window sill channel. Lower the panel onto the sill and push it downward to engage the top edge. Apply firm, even pressure around the perimeter of the panel to snap all retaining clips back into their receptacles. Reinstall all Torx fasteners in their original locations and tighten securely.

Reassembly

1. Reconnect negative battery terminal if it was disconnected
2. Raise and lower the window to verify proper operation and clearance with the reinstalled door panel
3. Inspect door panel fitment around all edges to ensure all clips are fully seated

Verification

• Open and close the door from inside using the new interior handle multiple times - operation should be smooth with no binding or unusual resistance
• Verify the door handle returns to its rest position after each use
• Check that the door panel is secure with no rattles or loose areas when the door is opened and closed
• Test all electrical switches in the door panel to confirm proper reconnection
