Complete removal and replacement of all four engine mounts (left, right, front, and rear) on a 2008 Dodge Viper 8.4L V10, requiring engine support and subframe access.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level, solid surface and engage parking brake.
2. Disconnect negative battery cable and isolate from terminal.
3. Allow engine and exhaust system to cool completely (minimum 2 hours after last operation).
4. Raise vehicle and support securely on jack stands at manufacturer-specified lift points.
5. Remove engine cover if equipped (pull upward to release from mounting grommets).
6. Apply penetrating oil to all visible engine mount fasteners and allow to soak.
7. Take photographs of engine position relative to radiator support and firewall for installation reference.

Procedure

   Install engine support fixture
   Position engine support fixture across inner fender aprons or use load leveler attached to engine lift points. Confirm factory engine lift point locations against Viper service documentation before attaching support; do not assume cylinder-head lift brackets are present. Attach support chains or cables to engine lift points and apply minimal tension to just contact the engine weight without lifting. Verify support is stable and engine cannot shift during mount removal.

   Access and remove right engine mount
   From underneath vehicle, locate right engine mount on passenger side between engine block and frame rail. Remove the through-bolt securing mount to frame bracket (typically 18mm). Remove the mounting bolts securing mount bracket to engine block. Note the number and size of bolts securing the right mount bracket to the engine block during removal (count unverified — confirm against Viper service manual). Support mount during removal and extract assembly downward.

   Access and remove left engine mount
   Locate left engine mount on driver side between engine block and frame rail. Remove the through-bolt securing mount to frame bracket (typically 18mm). Remove the mounting bolts securing mount bracket to engine block. Note the number and size of bolts securing the left mount bracket to the engine block during removal (count unverified — confirm against Viper service manual). Support mount during removal and extract assembly downward.

   Remove front engine mount
   Locate front engine mount at the front of the engine near the oil pan. This mount may be integrated with or near the front crossmember. Place hydraulic jack with wood block under oil pan for additional support. Remove the through-bolt or vertical fastener connecting mount to frame. Remove mounting bolts connecting mount to engine (typically 2-3 bolts). Carefully lower or extract mount assembly. Note: Verify whether a separate front engine mount exists on this Viper V10 configuration; many Viper installations use only two side engine mounts plus a transmission mount. If present, locate the front mount and note bolt count and configuration (unverified — confirm against Viper service manual).

   Access rear transmission mount
   Locate rear transmission mount at the tail of the transmission where it connects to the crossmember. You may need to remove heat shields if present. Support transmission tail housing with hydraulic jack and wood block to prevent sagging once mount is removed.

   Remove rear transmission mount fasteners
   Remove the through-bolt or mounting bolts connecting transmission mount to crossmember (typically 15-18mm). Remove fasteners securing mount bracket to transmission tail housing. Lower jack slightly to relieve tension and remove mount assembly. Keep crossmember supported with jack if it is not integrated with frame.

   Inspect mounting surfaces and clean
   With all mounts removed, inspect engine block mounting bosses, frame brackets, and all mounting surfaces for cracks, damage, or excessive wear. Use wire brush to clean all mounting surfaces and fastener threads. Remove any corrosion or debris. Inspect frame brackets for stress cracks or elongated bolt holes. Replace any damaged hardware.

   Install rear transmission mount
   Position new rear transmission mount on crossmember and align with transmission tail housing. Install mounting bolts to transmission housing and start threads by hand. Install through-bolt or crossmember fasteners and start by hand. Do not fully torque at this time. Ensure mount rubber is not twisted or pinched.

   Install front engine mount
   Position new front engine mount and align with engine block and frame mounting points. Install mounting bolts to engine block and start threads by hand. Install through-bolt or frame fasteners and start by hand. Use jack to adjust engine height if needed for alignment. Do not fully torque at this time.

    Install left and right engine mounts
    Position new left engine mount between engine block and frame bracket. Install mounting bolts to engine block and start by hand. Install through-bolt to frame bracket and start by hand. Repeat process for right engine mount. Use pry bar or alignment tool to shift engine position if needed to align bolt holes. Verify engine position matches reference photographs taken during preparation. Do not fully torque at this time.

    Align engine and torque all mount fasteners
    With all four mounts loosely installed, verify engine alignment relative to body panels, radiator support, and exhaust clearances. Adjust engine position using support fixture if needed. Once aligned, torque all mount fasteners in the following sequence: rear transmission mount fasteners, front engine mount fasteners, left engine mount fasteners, then right engine mount fasteners. Apply thread locker only if specified by the Viper service manual for these fasteners; verify OEM requirements before application. OEM torque specifications for engine mount and through-bolt fasteners are not available in this procedure and MUST be obtained from the 2008 Viper service manual before torquing. Do not rely on generic estimated values.

    Remove support equipment and verify clearances
    Carefully release tension on engine support fixture and remove from vehicle. Remove hydraulic jacks from under engine and transmission. Visually inspect all mount installations to verify no rubber components are pinched or twisted. Check clearance between engine and firewall, radiator support, exhaust components, and frame rails. Rock engine gently by hand to verify mounts are seated and secure.

Reassembly

1. Reinstall engine cover by aligning grommets and pressing firmly into place.
2. Reconnect negative battery cable to terminal.
3. Lower vehicle from jack stands.
4. Start engine and allow to idle, monitoring for abnormal vibration or movement.
5. Perform final visual inspection of all mount installations with engine running.

Verification

• With engine running at idle, verify no excessive engine movement or vibration is present.
• Rev engine to 2000-2500 RPM and verify mounts absorb movement without metal-to-metal contact sounds.
• Perform visual inspection under vehicle to confirm all mount fasteners are tight and properly seated.
• Test drive vehicle and verify no abnormal vibration or drivetrain noise under acceleration and deceleration.
• Re-check mount fastener torque after 50-100 miles of operation.
