Glove Box

This procedure removes and replaces the glove box assembly on a 2008 Dodge Viper, requiring removal of fasteners and disconnection of any internal wiring.

Preparation

1. Park the vehicle on level ground and engage the parking brake.
2. Remove all contents from the glove box.
3. If the glove box contains electronic modules or the vehicle has experienced electrical issues, disconnect the negative battery cable and wait 2 minutes before proceeding.

Procedure

   Open the glove box door fully
   Open the glove box door to its fully-open position. The door stops will hold it horizontal. Apply gentle upward pressure to ensure the door is at maximum travel to access internal fasteners.

   Remove glove box door stops
   Locate the door stop tabs on each side of the glove box that limit door travel. Squeeze or press inward on both left and right stop tabs simultaneously while pulling the door downward past the normal stop position. This allows the door to drop further and provides access to the hinge area.

   Remove glove box mounting fasteners
   With the door dropped past its stops, locate the mounting fasteners securing the glove box to the dashboard structure. Remove the mounting screws (verify exact count and driver size against the factory service manual — do not assume). Inspect for any additional push-pin retainers along the top edge of the glove box.

   Disconnect glove box lamp wiring (if equipped)
   If the glove box is equipped with an interior lamp, reach behind the glove box assembly and locate the wiring connector for the lamp. Press the release tab and disconnect the connector. Route the wiring free from any retaining clips on the glove box.

   Remove glove box assembly
   With all fasteners removed and wiring disconnected, carefully pull the glove box assembly forward and away from the dashboard. Guide the assembly out of the opening, being mindful of any remaining clips or edges that may catch on the surrounding trim.

   Inspect mounting points and prepare new assembly
   Inspect the dashboard mounting points for any damaged threads or broken clips. If installing a new glove box, transfer the door stops and any internal dampers or lamp assemblies from the old unit to the new one if they are not pre-installed.

   Install glove box assembly
   Position the glove box assembly into the dashboard opening, aligning the mounting holes with the dashboard structure. If equipped with a lamp, reconnect the wiring harness and press firmly until the connector locks. Secure any wiring in the original retaining clips.

   Install mounting fasteners
   Install the mounting screws into the glove box frame and hand-tighten first to ensure proper alignment, then snug them hand-firm in a cross pattern (do not overtighten trim screws into plastic bosses). Verify exact fastener count and any documented torque against the factory service manual. Reinstall any push-pin retainers by pressing them firmly into place until they click.

   Reinstall door stops
   With the glove box secured, squeeze the door stop tabs inward and guide the door back up into its normal travel range. Release the tabs so they engage with the door stop slots on each side of the opening. Open and close the door several times to verify smooth operation and proper stop engagement.

Reassembly

1. Reconnect the negative battery cable if it was disconnected.
2. Cycle the glove box door open and closed several times to verify proper fitment and alignment with surrounding trim.
3. Test the glove box lamp (if equipped) to confirm proper electrical connection.

Verification

• Open and close the glove box door through its full range of motion, confirming that door stops engage properly and the door does not bind or rattle.
• Check for even gaps around the glove box door perimeter when closed, comparing to the opposite side of the dashboard if applicable.
• Verify the glove box lamp illuminates when the door is opened (if equipped).
• Load the glove box with typical items (owner's manual, registration) and confirm the door closes securely without sagging.
