Remove and replace the front grille assembly on a 2008 Dodge Viper, including any necessary headlight or fascia clearance work.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Allow engine to cool completely if recently driven
3. Lay fender covers or soft cloths over fender edges to protect paint
4. Open hood and secure in raised position

Procedure

   Access upper grille fasteners
   Identify the front grille/fascia inlet openings on this vehicle. The 2008 Viper uses an integrated front fascia design; the upper grille fasteners, count, type, and access location must be confirmed against the factory service manual before removal, as they differ from conventional bolt-on grilles.

   Remove upper grille fasteners
   Remove the upper grille fasteners using the tool specified by the factory service manual. Set fasteners aside in a container to prevent loss.

   Access lower grille area
   Position yourself at the front of the vehicle. The lower grille area may have push-pin retainers or screws accessible from below the front fascia. You may need to turn the steering wheel to access fasteners through the wheel well opening, or reach underneath the front bumper.

   Locate lower grille fasteners
   Inspect the lower edge and sides of the grille opening for the retainers specified in the factory service manual. Confirm the exact count and fastener type before removal, as these secure the lower portion of the grille to the fascia or radiator support.

   Remove lower grille fasteners
   Remove the lower fasteners. If push-pin retainers are used, press the center pin to release the lock, then pull the entire retainer out. If Torx screws are present, remove them with the T20 driver and retain for installation.

   Release grille retaining clips
   Check for plastic retaining clips along the sides of the grille that snap into the front fascia or headlight mounting brackets. These may be located near the headlight openings. Gently pry or depress clip tabs using a trim tool or flathead screwdriver to release them.

   Remove grille assembly
   With all fasteners and clips released, carefully pull the grille assembly forward and away from the vehicle. Work slowly to avoid breaking any remaining hidden clips. If resistance is felt, stop and verify all fasteners have been removed.

   Inspect mounting points
   Examine the grille mounting locations on the radiator support and front fascia for damaged clips, broken tabs, or debris. Clean mounting surfaces if necessary. Check the condition of any rubber seals or foam weatherstripping.

   Prepare new grille
   Transfer any reusable clips, seals, or mounting hardware from the old grille to the new one if they are not pre-installed. Verify that all mounting points on the new grille match the original configuration.

    Install new grille assembly
    Position the new grille assembly into place, aligning the mounting holes and clip locations with their corresponding points on the vehicle. Press firmly to engage side retaining clips until they snap into place with an audible click.

    Install lower fasteners
    Install the lower push-pin retainers or Torx screws, ensuring they are fully seated. For push-pins, insert the retainer body first, then press the center pin flush until it locks. Do not overtighten screws.

    Install upper fasteners
    Install the upper grille fasteners as specified by the factory service manual. Tighten evenly, snug but not overtightened, to avoid cracking the grille mounting tabs.

Reassembly

1. Verify all fasteners are tight and all clips are fully engaged
2. Check grille alignment with surrounding fascia and headlights before final tightening
3. Close hood and verify grille sits flush with no gaps or misalignment

Verification

• Visually inspect grille for proper alignment and uniform gaps around all edges
• Gently pull on grille at multiple points to confirm secure attachment with no movement or rattles
• Verify headlight operation was not affected and no wiring was disturbed during removal
