Headlight Bulb - Single

Replacement of a single headlight bulb assembly on a 2008 Dodge Viper, requiring access through the front fascia area.

• Headlight bulb assembly (HID D1S bulb) × 1 — OEM P/N 04596831AA or equivalent D1S HID bulb

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
2. Turn headlight switch to OFF position
3. Allow headlights to cool for at least 10 minutes if recently operated
4. Open hood and secure with hood prop

Procedure

1. 1

   Access headlight assembly from engine bay
   Locate the rear of the headlight housing. The bulb access cover is located at the rear of the headlight housing. Verify on the 2008 Viper whether the bulb can be accessed in place or whether partial fascia/assembly removal is required to reach the bulb access cover.

   Remove bulb dust cover
   Rotate the rubber dust cover counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn and pull it away from the back of the headlight housing. This exposes the bulb socket and retaining mechanism.

   Disconnect electrical connector
   Locate the electrical connector attached to the base of the HID bulb. Press the release tab on the connector and pull straight back to disconnect it from the bulb. Allow the connector to hang freely; do not allow it to contact hot engine components.

   Release bulb retaining mechanism
   The D1S bulb is held by a wire retaining clip or twist-lock ring. If a wire clip is present, carefully unhook or depress the clip to release tension. If a twist-lock mechanism is used, rotate the bulb socket counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it releases. Remove the old bulb assembly by pulling it straight out of the housing.

   Install new HID bulb
   Using clean gloves or handling only the plastic base, align the new D1S bulb with the socket in the headlight housing. Ensure the alignment tabs on the bulb base match the slots in the housing. Insert the bulb fully into the socket.

   Secure bulb retaining mechanism
   If equipped with a wire retaining clip, hook or snap the clip back into place to secure the bulb. If equipped with a twist-lock ring, rotate the bulb socket clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into position. Verify the bulb is firmly seated and cannot be pulled out.

   Reconnect electrical connector
   Align the electrical connector with the terminals on the bulb base and push firmly until the connector clicks into place. Ensure the connection is secure by gently pulling on the connector.

   Reinstall dust cover
   Position the rubber dust cover over the back of the headlight housing, aligning any tabs or marks. Rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn to lock it into place. Ensure the seal is complete around the perimeter to prevent moisture intrusion.

Reassembly

1. Close hood
2. No additional reassembly required for this procedure

Verification

• Turn ignition to ON position (engine does not need to start)
• Turn headlight switch to ON position and verify the new bulb illuminates
• Check both low beam and high beam function if applicable to the replaced bulb position
• Inspect for proper beam pattern and alignment; adjust if necessary
• Verify no warning lights are illuminated on the instrument cluster
