LED Headlight Module

Replace the LED headlight module on a 2008 Dodge Viper, including removal of the front fascia and headlight housing to access the integrated LED module.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level ground and allow to cool completely
2. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait 2 minutes before proceeding
3. Protect painted surfaces with fender covers or masking tape around the work area
4. Open hood and secure in open position

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove front fascia upper fasteners
   Locate and remove the upper fascia mounting fasteners along the top edge of the front bumper cover. These are typically accessed from above with the hood open. Remove the fasteners securing the fascia to the radiator support and fender edges. Note fastener locations for reassembly. Note: Verify correct part number against OEM/Mopar documentation for the 2008 Dodge Viper headlamp assembly before ordering.

   Access and remove wheelwell liner fasteners
   Turn the steering wheel fully to one side to access the front wheelwell area on the side being serviced. Locate the fasteners securing the front portion of the wheelwell liner to the fascia. Remove these fasteners to allow the fascia to separate from the fender. Repeat for the opposite side if replacing both headlight modules.

   Remove front fascia lower fasteners
   From underneath the vehicle, locate and remove the lower fascia fasteners along the bottom edge. These typically secure the fascia to the lower radiator support and frame. Check for fasteners at the outer edges where the fascia meets the wheelwell area.

   Separate and remove front fascia
   With all fasteners removed, carefully pull the front fascia forward starting at one corner. The fascia may have alignment clips or tabs that need to be disengaged. Work slowly around the perimeter to avoid breaking tabs. Once free, remove the fascia completely and set aside on a protected surface.

   Disconnect headlight electrical connector
   Locate the electrical connector at the rear of the headlight housing. Press the locking tab and disconnect the main headlight connector. If there are multiple connectors for LED modules and position lights, disconnect all relevant connectors. Mark connections if needed for clarity during reassembly.

   Remove headlight housing mounting fasteners
   Locate the headlight housing mounting fasteners along the mounting brackets. Remove the fasteners securing the housing to the radiator support and fender structure (verify exact count and locations against the OEM service manual for the 2008 Viper). Support the headlight housing as you remove the final fastener.

   Remove headlight housing assembly
   Carefully pull the headlight housing forward and away from the vehicle. The housing may have alignment pins or guides that need to clear their mounting points. Once free, place the housing on a clean, protected work surface with the lens facing up.

   Access LED module mounting
   With the headlight housing removed from the vehicle, locate the LED module mounting points on the rear of the housing. The LED module is typically retained by clips, screws, or a locking ring mechanism. Identify the specific retention method used on this housing.

   Remove failed LED module
   Disconnect any internal wiring harnesses connecting the LED module to the housing. Remove the fasteners or release the clips securing the LED module. Carefully extract the LED module from the housing, noting its orientation and any sealing gaskets or O-rings that must be transferred to the new module.

    Install new LED module
    Transfer any sealing gaskets or O-rings from the old module to the new module if they are reusable and in good condition. Position the new LED module into the housing in the correct orientation. Secure the module using the retention clips, screws, or locking ring. Reconnect any internal wiring harnesses.

    Reinstall headlight housing assembly
    Position the headlight housing back into its mounting location, aligning any guide pins or tabs with their corresponding holes. Install and hand-tighten all mounting fasteners, then tighten securely in a cross pattern to ensure even seating of the housing.

    Reconnect electrical connections
    Reconnect all headlight electrical connectors, ensuring each connection clicks and locks into place. Verify no wiring is pinched or positioned where it could be damaged during fascia reinstallation.

    Reinstall front fascia
    Position the front fascia onto the vehicle, aligning the mounting holes and engagement tabs. Begin by engaging any alignment clips or tabs at the fender edges. Work around the perimeter to ensure proper fit before installing fasteners.

    Install fascia fasteners
    Reinstall all fascia mounting fasteners in reverse order of removal: lower fasteners first, then wheelwell liner fasteners, and finally upper fasteners along the radiator support and fender edges. Ensure the fascia is properly aligned and all panel gaps are even before fully tightening.

    Reconnect battery and test
    Reconnect the negative battery cable. Turn on the headlights and verify the new LED module functions correctly in all modes (low beam, high beam, daytime running lights if equipped). Check for proper beam pattern and alignment. Adjust headlight aim if necessary.

Reassembly

1. Install components in reverse order of removal
2. Ensure all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked
3. Verify fascia panel gaps and alignment before final tightening
4. Double-check that no tools or fasteners were left in the engine bay

Verification

• Turn on headlights and verify LED module illuminates correctly in all modes
• Check that low beam, high beam, and any integrated daytime running lights function properly
• Inspect headlight beam pattern on a wall or garage door to ensure proper aim
• Verify all fascia fasteners are secure and panel gaps are even
• Test drive the vehicle and confirm no warning lights appear on the instrument cluster
