Remove and replace the rearview mirror assembly on a 2008 Dodge Viper, including detachment from the windshield mount and disconnection of any integrated electronics.

Preparation

Procedure

There should be a small trim cover or boot concealing the connector. Gently pull down or pry this cover to expose the electrical connector.

   Press the locking tab on the electrical connector and pull it straight down to disconnect it from the mirror assembly. Allow the connector to hang freely or secure it temporarily with tape to prevent it from falling behind the dash.

   Examine where the mirror arm attaches to the windshield mount button. The mirror arm attaches to a windshield-bonded mount button. Inspect the base of the mirror arm to determine the specific retention method — this may be a slide-on bracket held by a spring clip or a small set screw. Verify the exact mechanism before proceeding.

   Release the mirror from the windshield mount
   If equipped with a set screw, loosen it using the appropriate size Allen key (verify exact size against the mirror hardware) until the mirror arm can slide off the mount button. The mirror should separate from the windshield button without excessive force.

   Once the attachment mechanism is released, slide the mirror assembly upward and away from the windshield mount button. Set the old mirror aside on a clean, padded surface.

   Examine the metal or plastic button adhered to the windshield. Check for cracks, looseness, or adhesive failure. If the button is secure and undamaged, it can be reused. If it is loose or damaged, it must be removed and replaced. To remove a damaged button, apply heat with a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the adhesive, then twist and pull the button off. Clean any remaining adhesive from the windshield using a razor blade held flat against the glass.

   Install the new mirror assembly
   Align the mounting bracket on the new mirror assembly with the windshield mount button. Slide the mirror bracket down onto the button until it seats fully. If using a set screw mechanism, tighten the set screw to secure the mirror in place. Ensure the mirror is oriented correctly and sits flush against the mount.

   Reconnect the electrical connector (if equipped)
   Align the electrical connector with the socket at the base of the mirror assembly and push it in until it clicks into place. Ensure the locking tab engages. Replace any trim cover or boot over the connector.

   Reconnect the battery and test
   Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Start the vehicle and verify that any integrated electronics your mirror is equipped with function correctly (note: base 2008 Vipers typically use a plain manual mirror without auto-dimming, compass, or HomeLink). Check that the mirror adjusts properly and holds its position.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked before testing.
2. If a new windshield mount button was installed, allow the adhesive to cure per the manufacturer's instructions (typically 24 hours) before adjusting the mirror or subjecting it to vibration.

Verification

• Adjust the mirror to confirm it moves smoothly and holds position without sagging.
