Seat Track

Remove and replace the driver or passenger seat track assembly on a 2008 Dodge Viper, including seat removal, track fastener disconnection, and installation of new track components.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake.
2. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait at least 2 minutes before proceeding.
3. Move seat to full rearward position for access to front mounting bolts.
4. Inspect seat base and floor area for any loose items or obstructions.

Procedure

   Mark seat position
   Before moving the seat, use a marker or tape to mark the current fore-aft position of the seat on the track rails. This will help restore the original seating position during reassembly.

   Disconnect electrical connectors
   Locate any electrical connectors under the seat for power adjustment motors, heating elements, or occupancy sensors if equipped. Press the release tab on each connector and disconnect. Route connectors clear of the seat mounting area. Note: Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait at least 2 minutes before beginning work as a standard precaution against airbag/electrical faults, particularly if the seat has occupancy sensors or seat-mounted airbags.

   Access front track mounting bolts
   With the seat in the full rearward position, locate the front track mounting bolts on both sides of the seat base. The seat track assembly is secured to the floor pan with mounting bolts (verify exact count and location against the 2008 Viper service manual before removal). Remove the 2 front bolts using the appropriate socket or Torx driver.

   Access rear track mounting bolts
   Slide the seat fully forward on its track to expose the rear mounting bolts. Remove the 2 rear bolts securing the track assembly to the floor pan. Keep all hardware organized for reinstallation.

   Remove seat assembly from vehicle
   With all four mounting bolts removed and electrical connections disconnected, carefully lift the entire seat assembly straight up and out of the vehicle. The seat is heavy; use proper lifting technique or have an assistant help. Place the seat on a clean, protected work surface with the bottom facing up.

   Remove seat from track assembly
   With the seat inverted on the work surface, locate the fasteners securing the seat frame to the track assembly. Locate the fasteners connecting the seat frame to the track sliders (verify exact count against the 2008 Viper service manual). Remove these bolts to separate the seat from the track assembly. Note the orientation and any shims or spacers present.

   Inspect track and mounting points
   Examine the removed track assembly for wear, damage, bent rails, or binding sliders. Inspect the floor pan mounting points for stripped threads, cracks, or corrosion. Clean the mounting area on the floor pan with a shop towel, removing any dirt or debris that could prevent proper seating of the new track.

   Install new track assembly to seat frame
   Position the new track assembly to the seat frame, ensuring correct left/right orientation and that any shims or spacers are reinstalled in their original positions. Install the track-to-seat frame bolts and tighten them evenly. Verify the seat slides smoothly on the new tracks before proceeding. Note: per 2008 Viper service manual specification (verify against OEM torque table)

   Install seat assembly into vehicle
   Carefully lower the seat assembly with new tracks into the vehicle, aligning the track mounting holes with the floor pan threaded inserts. Route any electrical connectors through their proper channels to avoid pinching.

    Install and torque mounting bolts
    Install all 4 track mounting bolts finger-tight first to ensure proper alignment. Torque the mounting bolts to the manufacturer specification.     Reconnect electrical connections
    Reconnect all electrical connectors under the seat, ensuring each locks into place with an audible click. Verify connectors are fully seated and not under tension or at risk of being pinched during seat travel.

    Reconnect battery and test
    Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Before starting the vehicle, test seat operation by sliding it forward and backward through its full range of travel. Verify smooth operation with no binding, unusual noise, or catching. If equipped with power adjustments, test all functions including recline, height, and lumbar.

Reassembly

1. Reinstall components in reverse order of removal.
2. Ensure all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked.
3. Adjust seat to the marked position or to driver comfort preferences.
4. Verify seat belt operation and routing are not affected by seat removal and reinstallation.

Verification

• Slide seat through full range of forward and backward travel, confirming smooth operation with no binding or noise.
• Rock seat base side-to-side and front-to-back to confirm secure mounting with no movement.
• Test all electrical functions if equipped (power adjustment, heating, etc.).
• Verify seat belt buckle and anchor points are accessible and functional.
• Start vehicle and confirm no airbag warning lights on instrument cluster.
