Power Window Regulator - Front

Remove and replace the front door power window regulator assembly on a 2008 Dodge Viper, including door panel removal, window stabilization, and regulator installation.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and turn ignition off.

Procedure

   Remove door panel fasteners
   Remove the Torx screws securing the door panel. Look for fasteners in the door pull handle recess, along the bottom edge of the panel, and near the door latch lever. Verify the exact count and size of door panel fasteners against factory service documentation for the 2008 Viper before removal. Check the armrest area and pull handle assembly for additional fasteners.

   Disconnect door latch and electrical connectors
   Remove the door latch bezel by prying gently with a panel tool. Disconnect the interior door release mechanism per the Viper door design. If a mechanical latch rod is present, release its clip and lift the rod from the latch lever; otherwise disconnect the release cable/linkage as equipped. Disconnect all electrical connectors for the window switch, door lock switch, and any courtesy lighting. Press release tabs and pull connectors straight out.

   Remove door panel
   Use a panel removal tool to release the plastic retaining clips around the perimeter of the door panel. Start at the bottom rear corner and work around the panel. Lift the panel up and away from the door frame once all clips are released. Set the panel aside in a safe location.

   Peel back water barrier
   Carefully peel back the plastic water barrier sheeting from the inner door frame to expose the window regulator mechanism. Take care not to tear the barrier material; it must maintain its seal on reinstallation. Only peel back as much as necessary to access the regulator mounting points and electrical connector.

   Support window glass
   Raise the window glass to the fully up position. Secure the glass in place using painter's tape applied from the glass to the door frame exterior, or use a window support prop wedged between the glass and door sill. The glass must be fully supported before disconnecting from the regulator.

   Disconnect window from regulator
   Locate the bolts securing the window glass to the regulator lift plate inside the door frame. Remove the bolts that attach the glass to the regulator lift mechanism (verify exact count and size against factory service documentation for the 2008 Viper). Carefully slide the glass upward away from the regulator once detached.

   Disconnect regulator electrical connector
   Locate the electrical connector for the window regulator motor. Press the release tab and pull the connector straight off the motor. Route the connector out of the way to prevent interference during regulator removal.

   Remove regulator mounting fasteners
   Remove the bolts securing the regulator assembly to the inner door frame (verify exact count, location, and size against factory service documentation for the 2008 Viper). If the regulator is riveted instead of bolted, drill out the rivets using an appropriately sized bit while wearing safety glasses. Drill only deep enough to remove the rivet head, not through the door frame.

   Remove regulator assembly
   Carefully maneuver the regulator assembly out through the large access opening in the inner door frame. The regulator and motor assembly must be tilted and rotated to clear the door structure. Route the motor wiring through the frame opening as you withdraw the assembly.

    Install new regulator assembly
    Position the new regulator assembly near the door opening. Route the motor electrical connector through the access hole first. Maneuver the regulator into position inside the door frame, aligning the mounting holes with the door structure. If replacing rivets with bolts, ensure bolts are the appropriate length to avoid protruding through the outer door skin.

    Secure regulator to door frame
    Install the 3 mounting bolts and tighten securely. Start all bolts by hand before final tightening to ensure proper alignment. Tighten bolts in a cross pattern if applicable. Reconnect the electrical connector to the regulator motor, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

    Attach window glass to regulator
    Lower the window glass down onto the regulator lift plate. Align the mounting holes in the glass channel with the lift plate. Install the 2 mounting bolts and tighten securely. Remove the tape or support prop holding the window up.

    Test window operation
    Temporarily reconnect the battery negative terminal. Turn the ignition to the accessory position and test window operation using the door switch. Cycle the window fully up and down multiple times to verify smooth operation, proper alignment, and that the window seats correctly in the up position. Disconnect the battery again before continuing.

    Reinstall water barrier and door panel
    Press the water barrier sheeting firmly back into place around its entire perimeter, ensuring a complete seal. Position the door panel over the door frame, engaging the top edge into the window channel first. Press firmly around all edges to seat the plastic retaining clips. Reinstall all Torx screws. Reconnect the door latch rod and all electrical connectors. Install the door latch bezel.

Reassembly

1. Reconnect battery negative terminal and clear any fault codes if necessary.
2. Perform window auto-up/auto-down relearn procedure if equipped: hold window switch in up position for 2 seconds after window reaches top, then hold down position for 2 seconds after window reaches bottom.
3. Verify all door switches and locks function properly.
4. Check door panel for secure fit and ensure no rattles or gaps remain.

Verification

• Cycle window up and down at least 5 times to confirm smooth operation without binding or unusual noise.
• Verify window glass aligns flush with door frame and weatherstripping in the fully closed position.
• Test auto-up and auto-down functions (if equipped) to ensure proper operation.
• Check for water leaks by pouring water over the door exterior and inspecting interior for moisture.
• Verify door panel is secure with no loose clips or rattles.
