T20 Torx driverEssential
Panel pry tool
Socket wrench with 8mm socket
Magnetic parts tray

Parts

  • Dash speaker (3.5 inch or 4 inch depending on trim level) × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Trim panel clips (if broken during removal) × 2 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition off and remove key
  3. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait minimum 2 minutes for airbag system to discharge
  4. Identify which dash speaker requires replacement (driver or passenger side)

Procedure

  1. 1
    Locate dash speaker grille
The dash speaker grille is located on top of the dashboard near the windshield on either the driver or passenger side. It appears as a rectangular or oval perforated cover integrated into the dash surface.
  2. 2
    Remove speaker grille
Using a trim panel removal tool, carefully insert the tool at the rear edge of the speaker grille (closest to windshield). Gently pry upward to release the clips. Work your way around the grille perimeter, releasing all clips. The grille is held by 2-4 plastic clips depending on side. Lift the grille away from the dash.
  3. 3
    Access speaker mounting screws
With the grille removed, you will see the speaker mounted in a plastic housing. Identify the mounting screws - typically 2-3 T20 Torx screws securing the speaker to the dash structure.
  4. 4
    Remove speaker mounting screws
Using a T20 Torx driver, remove all speaker mounting screws. Keep screws in a magnetic tray or safe location. Note the screw locations as some may be different lengths.
  5. 5
    Disconnect speaker harness
Carefully lift the speaker assembly up enough to access the electrical connector on the back. Press the locking tab on the connector and pull the connector straight off the speaker terminals. Remove the old speaker from the dash.
  6. 6
    Install new speaker
Connect the electrical harness to the new speaker by pushing the connector firmly onto the speaker terminals until it clicks. Verify the connection is secure. Lower the speaker into the mounting location, aligning the screw holes with the dash structure.
  7. 7
    Secure speaker mounting screws
Install all speaker mounting screws and tighten by hand initially. Tighten screws in a cross pattern to ensure even seating. Final tighten with T20 Torx driver - snug but do not overtighten as you are threading into plastic.
  8. 8
    Reinstall speaker grille
Position the speaker grille over the opening, aligning the clips with their receptacles in the dash. Press firmly around the perimeter of the grille until all clips snap into place. Ensure the grille sits flush with the dash surface.
  9. 9
    Reconnect battery
Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Tighten the terminal bolt to specification.
    Torque spec
    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)

Reassembly

  1. Ensure speaker grille is fully seated and all clips are engaged
  2. Verify no gaps exist between grille and dash surface
  3. Confirm all removed screws have been reinstalled

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine
  • Test speaker operation using radio or audio system - cycle through fade and balance settings to isolate the replaced speaker
  • Verify sound quality is clear without distortion or rattling
  • Check that speaker grille does not vibrate or rattle during audio playback
  • Test at various volume levels to ensure proper operation
