- Door panel clips (if damaged) × 5 — Ford OEM door panel retainer clips
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
- Lower window completely to prevent damage during door panel removal
- Gather all tools and replacement speaker before beginning
- Identify which door speaker requires replacement
Procedure
- 1Remove door panel screwsUse T20 Torx driver to remove the screw located in the door pull handle recess. Remove Phillips screw behind the door latch handle trim. On models with power windows, there may be an additional screw near the armrest.
- 2Remove door handle trimCarefully pry the door latch handle trim piece away from the door panel using a door panel removal tool. Start at the rear edge and work forward. Set trim piece aside with screw.
- 3Disconnect switch moduleIf equipped with power windows/locks, gently pull the switch module up and out of the door panel. Disconnect the electrical connector by pressing the release tab and pulling straight back. Let module hang by wire harness.
- 4Release door panel clipsInsert door panel removal tool between door panel and door frame around the perimeter. Release approximately 8-12 retaining clips by prying outward gently. Work around entire panel starting from bottom edge, avoiding excessive force to prevent clip breakage.
- 5Lift and remove door panelOnce all clips are released, lift the door panel upward approximately 1 inch to disengage it from the door frame lip at the window opening. Pull panel away from door while managing any remaining wire connections. Set panel on clean surface with interior side up.
- 6Access speaker locationLocate the speaker mounted in the lower front section of the door. On F-150 models, the speaker is typically behind a foam moisture barrier. Carefully peel back barrier material only enough to access speaker mounting screws without tearing.
- 7Remove speaker mounting screwsUse Phillips screwdriver to remove the 3 or 4 screws securing the speaker to the door frame. Keep screws organized as they may differ from aftermarket speaker hardware. Note speaker orientation before removal.
- 8Disconnect speaker connectorPull speaker forward enough to access the electrical connector on the rear. Press the connector release tab and pull connector straight off speaker terminals. Remove old speaker from door.
- 9Install new speakerConnect electrical connector to new speaker terminals ensuring positive orientation matches original. Position new speaker in door mounting location with mounting holes aligned. If using aftermarket speaker, use supplied adapter brackets if necessary to match OEM mounting pattern.
- 10Secure speaker and moisture barrierInstall speaker mounting screws and tighten securely but do not overtighten into plastic or sheet metal. Reposition foam moisture barrier over speaker, ensuring complete coverage to prevent water intrusion into door cavity.
- 11Reinstall door panelReconnect any wire harnesses that were disconnected. Position door panel and engage top edge under window frame lip. Press firmly around perimeter to seat all retaining clips until clicks are heard confirming engagement.
- 12Reinstall trim and switchesReconnect power window/lock switch module if equipped and press into door panel until seated. Install door latch handle trim piece. Reinstall all screws removed in step 1, ensuring they are snug but not overtightened into plastic.
Reassembly
- Verify all door panel clips are fully engaged by checking for gaps around panel perimeter
- Ensure all screws are reinstalled in their original locations
- Test window operation to confirm no interference with door panel
Verification
- Turn ignition to accessory mode and test speaker function using radio or audio system
- Verify speaker produces clear sound without distortion or rattling
- Test all door functions including window operation, locks, and door latch
- Inspect door panel fitment to ensure no gaps or loose areas
- Verify door latch and handle operate normally without obstruction
