Parts

  • Windshield washer pump assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification or equivalent
  • Washer reservoir grommet (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification

Fluids

  • Windshield Washer Fluid — 3.5 qt

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level ground and set parking brake
  2. Allow engine to cool if recently operated
  3. Gather all tools and the replacement washer pump
  4. Position drain pan under driver side front wheel well area

Procedure

  1. 1
    Access the washer reservoir
Turn the steering wheel fully to the right for better access. The washer reservoir is located in the driver side front wheel well area, behind the fender liner.
  2. 2
    Remove fender liner fasteners
Remove the front portion of the driver side fender liner by removing the plastic push pins and screws. You only need to remove enough to access the washer reservoir. Typically 4-6 fasteners need removal to fold back the liner.
  3. 3
    Locate the washer pump
Identify the washer pump on the bottom of the washer reservoir. The pump is a cylindrical component with an electrical connector and one or two fluid outlet hoses depending on configuration (windshield only or windshield plus rear window).
  4. 4
    Disconnect electrical connector
Press the locking tab on the washer pump electrical connector and pull the connector straight off the pump. The connector may be stiff; work it gently to avoid breaking the tab.
  5. 5
    Disconnect washer hoses
Use a flathead screwdriver or needle-nose pliers to carefully release the hose clamps or press tabs on the washer hoses. Pull the hoses straight off the pump outlets. Washer fluid will drain from the hoses and reservoir, so position your drain pan accordingly.
  6. 6
    Remove the washer pump
Grasp the pump body firmly and rotate counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn while pulling outward. The pump is held in place by a bayonet-style grommet. Once rotated, pull the pump straight out of the reservoir. Inspect the grommet seal; replace if cracked or damaged.
  7. 7
    Install new washer pump
Insert the new pump into the reservoir opening, ensuring the grommet is properly seated. Align the tabs on the pump with the slots in the reservoir, then press firmly and rotate clockwise 1/4 turn until the pump locks into place. Tug gently to verify it is secured.
  8. 8
    Reconnect washer hoses
Push the washer hoses onto the pump outlet fittings until they bottom out. Ensure any retaining clips or clamps are properly engaged. Verify hoses are routed correctly and not kinked.
  9. 9
    Reconnect electrical connector
Push the electrical connector onto the pump until you hear or feel the locking tab click into place. Gently pull on the connector to verify it is secured.
  10. 10
    Reinstall fender liner
Position the fender liner back into place and reinstall all push pins and screws that were removed. Ensure the liner is properly seated and does not interfere with tire rotation.
  11. 11
    Refill washer reservoir
Open the hood and locate the washer reservoir filler cap. Fill the reservoir with approximately 3.5 quarts of windshield washer fluid, or until the fluid reaches the full line on the reservoir.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all fender liner fasteners are securely installed
  2. Verify washer hoses are not kinked or rubbing on moving components
  3. Double-check electrical connector is fully locked onto pump

Verification

  • Turn ignition to the ON position without starting the engine
  • Activate the windshield washer function and verify fluid sprays onto the windshield
  • Check for leaks around pump connections, hoses, and reservoir while pump is operating
  • Verify pump operates quietly without excessive noise or vibration
  • If equipped with rear washer, test that function as well
  • Inspect the work area for any fluid leaks after test operation
