Parts
- Rear power window motor assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Door panel retaining clips (assorted) × 1 — Replacement for broken clips
- Vapor barrier adhesive × 1 — If moisture shield is damaged
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition, removing key from vehicle
- Roll rear window down approximately halfway to access motor mounting bolts through door access holes
- If window is inoperative, you may need to manually lower the glass by disconnecting the regulator arm and carefully sliding glass down
- Prepare a clean workspace to lay door panel face-down without scratching
Procedure
- 1Remove door panel trim and switch assemblyUsing trim removal tool, carefully pry out the rear door switch bezel from the armrest. Disconnect the window switch electrical connector by pressing the release tab and pulling straight back. Remove any visible screws in the door pull handle area using T30 Torx driver.
- 2Remove door panel fastenersLocate and remove all door panel retaining screws, typically found behind switch bezel and in door pull cup. Use panel removal tool to release the perimeter retaining clips by gently prying outward starting at the bottom rear corner and working around the panel. There are typically 8-12 clips around the perimeter.
- 3Separate and remove door panelLift the door panel straight up to disengage it from the window sill channel at the top of the door. Disconnect any remaining electrical connectors for locks or courtesy lights. Carefully remove the panel and set it aside on a protected surface face-down.
- 4Access window motor through moisture barrierCarefully peel back the plastic moisture barrier (vapor barrier) only as much as necessary to access the window motor area. The barrier is typically adhesive-backed. Use caution to avoid tearing; use tape to hold it out of the way. Locate the window motor mounted to the regulator assembly inside the door.
- 5Secure window glassSupport the window glass to prevent it from falling when the motor is disconnected. Use masking tape to secure the glass to the door frame in the up position, or have an assistant hold it. Alternatively, remove the window regulator-to-glass mounting bolts and carefully slide glass fully up and tape it to the door frame.
- 6Disconnect window motor electrical connectorLocate the electrical connector on the window motor. Press the connector release tab and pull the connector straight off the motor. Ensure you note the connector orientation for reinstallation.
- 7Remove window motor mounting boltsUsing 10mm socket, remove the three mounting bolts securing the window motor to the regulator assembly. These bolts are accessible through the door service holes. Support the motor as you remove the final bolt to prevent it from falling inside the door.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 8Remove window motor from doorCarefully maneuver the window motor out of the door through the largest access hole. You may need to rotate or angle the motor to clear the regulator mechanism and door frame. Take care not to damage wiring harnesses or the regulator assembly during removal.
- 9Install new window motorPosition the new window motor into the door cavity and align it with the mounting holes on the regulator assembly. Ensure the motor gear properly meshes with the regulator mechanism. Start all three mounting bolts by hand before tightening.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 10Reconnect electrical connector and testConnect the electrical connector to the new window motor, ensuring it clicks securely into place. Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine off) and test window operation using the master switch. The window should move smoothly up and down without binding or unusual noise. Turn ignition off before proceeding.
- 11Reinstall moisture barrier and door panelIf necessary, apply fresh adhesive to the moisture barrier and press it firmly back into place, ensuring complete seal around the perimeter. Reconnect any door panel electrical connectors. Position the door panel onto the door, engaging the top edge into the window sill channel first, then pressing the panel firmly to engage all retaining clips around the perimeter.
- 12Reinstall door panel fasteners and trimInstall all door panel retaining screws using T30 Torx driver. Reconnect the window switch electrical connector and snap the switch bezel back into the armrest. Ensure all trim pieces are flush and properly seated.
Reassembly
- Verify all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked
- Check that door panel clips are fully engaged and panel is secure with no gaps
- Ensure moisture barrier is properly sealed to prevent water intrusion into door cavity
- Test all door functions including locks, switches, and courtesy lights after reassembly
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position and test rear window operation from both master switch and rear door switch
- Verify window travels full range of motion smoothly without binding, hesitation, or unusual noise
- Check that window auto-up and auto-down features work correctly if equipped
- Confirm window seats properly in both fully up and fully down positions
- Test window operation multiple times to ensure consistent performance
- Verify door panel is secure with no rattles when closing door firmly
