Replace or remove/install the fog light assembly on a 2011-2014 Ford F-150 5.0L V8 4WD, including bulb replacement and housing removal.

Warnings

Allow fog lights to cool completely before handling bulbs or assemblies to prevent burns.
ℹ️Do not touch halogen bulb glass with bare hands as oils can cause premature failure; use clean gloves.

Tools required

10mm socket and ratchetEssential
Flathead screwdriver
Trim panel removal tool
Gloves (clean, lint-free)

Parts

  • Fog light assembly × 1 — Use OEM Ford specification or aftermarket equivalent
  • H10 fog light bulb × 1 — H10 9145 42W halogen bulb
  • Push pin retainers (if damaged) × 2 — Ford push pin retainers

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn off ignition and headlight switch to ensure fog lights are off
  3. Allow fog lights to cool for at least 15 minutes if recently operated
  4. Turn front wheels to full lock in opposite direction of repair side for easier access

Procedure

  1. 1
    Access the fog light assembly
From underneath the front bumper, locate the fog light assembly on the side requiring service. The assembly is mounted in the lower bumper opening and accessible from below without removing the bumper.
  2. 2
    Disconnect the electrical connector
Reach behind the fog light assembly and locate the wiring harness connector. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight off the fog light assembly. If only replacing the bulb, you may be able to rotate the bulb socket counterclockwise and remove without disconnecting the entire assembly.
  3. 3
    Remove fog light mounting fasteners
Remove the two push pin retainers or screws securing the fog light assembly to the bumper. On some models, these are accessed from the front; on others, from behind. Use a flathead screwdriver or trim tool to release push pins by pressing the center, then prying out the entire retainer.
  4. 4
    Remove the fog light assembly
Carefully pull the fog light assembly forward and out of the bumper opening. Maneuver it past any mounting tabs or clips. If resistance is felt, check for additional retaining clips or fasteners.
  5. 5
Remove the bulb (if replacing bulb only)
If the assembly is still functional and only the bulb needs replacement, rotate the bulb socket counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn and pull it out of the back of the housing. Remove the H10 bulb from the socket by pulling it straight out or releasing the locking clip, depending on design.
  6. 6
    Install new bulb or assembly
If installing a new bulb, insert the H10 bulb into the socket without touching the glass (use clean gloves). Insert the socket into the fog light housing and rotate clockwise to lock. If installing a complete new assembly, ensure the bulb is properly installed in the new housing before proceeding.
  7. 7
    Reinstall fog light assembly
Guide the fog light assembly back into the bumper opening, aligning the mounting holes with the bumper. Ensure any alignment tabs are properly seated. Install the two push pin retainers or mounting screws to secure the assembly. If using push pins, insert the pin fully and press the center to lock.
  8. 8
    Reconnect electrical connector
Plug the wiring harness connector back onto the fog light assembly, ensuring it clicks into place and the locking tab engages fully. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is secure.
  9. 9
    Test fog light operation
Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine does not need to start). Turn on the headlights and activate the fog light switch. Verify the newly installed fog light illuminates properly and the beam pattern is correct. Check for any loose connections or rattles.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all push pin retainers are fully seated and locked in place
  2. Verify electrical connector is fully engaged with locking tab secured
  3. Return steering wheel to center position after test

Verification

  • Confirm fog light illuminates when fog light switch is activated with headlights on
  • Check that fog light assembly is securely mounted with no excessive movement
  • Verify beam pattern is aimed properly and consistent with opposite side fog light
  • Inspect for any gaps between fog light assembly and bumper cover
