Parts

  • H10 fog light bulb × 1 — H10 9145 45W halogen bulb or LED equivalent

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn off fog lights and ignition, remove key
  3. Allow fog lights to cool completely if recently used
  4. Turn front wheels fully to the side opposite of the fog light being replaced for easier access

Procedure

  1. 1
Access fog light housing from wheel well
Look into the front wheel well area behind the bumper. Locate the fog light housing on the inner side of the bumper. You will see the bulb socket and wiring harness connector accessible from this area without removing any panels on this generation F-150.
  2. 2
    Disconnect electrical connector
Locate the electrical connector attached to the back of the fog light bulb socket. Press the release tab on the connector and pull it straight away from the bulb socket to disconnect. The connector may be tight on first removal.
  3. 3
    Remove bulb socket from housing
Grasp the bulb socket firmly and rotate it counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn (90 degrees) until it releases from the fog light housing. Pull the socket straight out of the housing.
  4. 4
    Remove old bulb from socket
The H10 bulb is a twist-lock style. Grasp the bulb base and rotate it counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn, then pull straight out from the socket. Inspect the socket terminals for corrosion or damage while bulb is removed.
  5. 5
    Install new bulb into socket
Holding the new H10 bulb by the plastic base only (avoid touching the glass), align the tabs on the bulb base with the slots in the socket. Insert the bulb and rotate clockwise 1/4 turn until it locks into place. Verify the bulb is secure in the socket.
  6. 6
    Install bulb socket into housing
Insert the bulb socket assembly straight into the fog light housing opening. Rotate the socket clockwise 1/4 turn until it locks into the housing. Gently tug on the socket to confirm it is properly seated and locked.
  7. 7
    Reconnect electrical connector
Push the electrical connector firmly onto the bulb socket until you hear or feel the locking tab click into place. Verify the connection is secure by gently pulling on the connector.

Reassembly

  1. Return steering wheel to center position if it was turned for access
  2. No additional reassembly required as no panels were removed

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position and activate fog lights using the headlight control switch
  • Verify the new fog light illuminates properly and brightness matches the opposite side
  • Walk around vehicle to confirm fog light beam pattern is correct and properly aimed
  • Turn fog lights off and verify they shut off completely
