Warnings
⚠Disconnect the negative battery cable before beginning work to prevent accidental horn activation and potential short circuits.
ℹ️The horn is located behind the front bumper on the driver side frame rail. Access requires working underneath the front of the vehicle.
ℹ️Test the horn before replacement to confirm the horn itself is faulty rather than a wiring or fuse issue.

Parts
- Horn assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Ground wire terminal (if corroded) × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and apply parking brake
- Disconnect negative battery cable and wait 2 minutes for system discharge
- Check horn fuse (F27 in the battery junction box) and replace if blown
- Allow engine to cool if recently operated
- Raise front of vehicle and support on jack stands if additional clearance is needed
Procedure
- 1Access the horn locationPosition yourself under the front driver side of the vehicle. The horn is mounted on the driver side frame rail behind the front bumper, near the radiator support. You may need to remove the plastic splash shield if equipped by removing the push pins or screws.
- 2Test horn electrical circuitBefore removing the horn, reconnect the battery temporarily and have an assistant press the horn button while you listen at the horn location. If you hear clicking or partial sound, the wiring is likely good. If no sound at all, use a multimeter to test for 12V at the horn connector when the button is pressed. Disconnect battery again before proceeding.
- 3Disconnect horn electrical connectorLocate the electrical connector on the horn assembly. Press the release tab and pull the connector straight off the horn terminal. Inspect the connector for corrosion or damage. Clean with electrical contact cleaner if necessary.
- 4Remove horn mounting boltUsing a 13mm socket, remove the horn mounting bolt that secures the horn bracket to the frame rail. Support the horn with one hand as you remove the bolt to prevent it from falling.Torque specHorn Mounting Bolt15 Nm (11 lb-ft)
- 5Remove ground connectionLocate the ground wire attached to the horn bracket or nearby frame location. Using a 10mm socket, remove the ground bolt. Inspect the ground connection point for corrosion. If corroded, clean both the frame surface and terminal with a wire brush down to bare metal.Torque specGround Bolt17 Nm (13 lb-ft)
- 6Remove horn assemblyPull the horn assembly away from the mounting location. Note the orientation of the horn and bracket for proper reinstallation. Inspect the mounting bracket for damage or excessive corrosion.
- 7Install new horn assemblyPosition the new horn assembly in the same orientation as the original. Align the mounting bracket with the frame rail hole. Insert the mounting bolt hand-tight first to ensure proper alignment.Torque specHorn Mounting Bolt15 Nm (11 lb-ft)
- 8Reinstall ground connectionAttach the ground wire terminal to the frame or bracket location. Ensure the contact surface is clean and bare metal is visible for proper grounding. Install the ground bolt and torque to specification.Torque specGround Bolt17 Nm (13 lb-ft)
- 9Connect electrical connectorPush the electrical connector firmly onto the horn terminal until you hear or feel it click into place. Tug gently on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.
- 10Reinstall splash shieldIf the plastic splash shield was removed, reinstall it using the original push pins or screws. Ensure all clips are fully seated.
Reassembly
- Reconnect the negative battery cable and tighten the terminal bolt securely
- Verify all tools and parts have been removed from the work area
- Lower vehicle from jack stands if raised
Verification
- Turn the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine
- Press the horn button on the steering wheel and verify the horn sounds clearly and loudly
- Test horn operation multiple times with both short and long presses
- Verify no warning lights appear on the instrument cluster
- Inspect underneath the vehicle to confirm no hanging wires or loose components
