Parts
- Windshield washer pump × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Washer pump grommet (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification
Fluids
- Windshield Washer Fluid — 3.5 qt
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
- Turn steering wheel fully to the right to provide access to left front wheel well
- Disconnect negative battery terminal to prevent accidental washer pump activation
- Allow any recent washer fluid use to drain back to reservoir (wait 2-3 minutes)
Procedure
- 1Disconnect batteryDisconnect the negative battery terminal using a 10mm socket. Move the cable away from the battery post to prevent accidental contact during the repair.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 2Remove wheel well liner fastenersRemove the push-pin fasteners securing the front portion of the left front wheel well liner using a panel trim removal tool. You only need to remove enough fasteners to fold back the liner for access to the washer reservoir area (typically 6-8 fasteners along the front edge).
- 3Access washer reservoirCarefully pull back the wheel well liner to expose the washer fluid reservoir. The reservoir is mounted to the inner fender. Locate the washer pump at the bottom of the reservoir.
- 4Disconnect electrical connectorLocate the electrical connector on the washer pump. Press the release tab and disconnect the wiring harness from the pump. Note the connector orientation for reinstallation.
- 5Disconnect washer hoseUsing needle nose pliers, squeeze the hose clamp and slide it up the washer hose away from the pump outlet. Pull the washer hose off the pump outlet nipple. Allow fluid to drain into your drain pan.
- 6Remove washer pumpThe pump is retained by a grommet in the reservoir. Firmly grasp the pump body and pull straight out while twisting slightly back and forth. The pump will pull out of the rubber grommet. More washer fluid will drain out, so have your drain pan positioned underneath.
- 7Inspect grommetInspect the rubber grommet remaining in the reservoir for cracks, tears, or deterioration. If damaged, carefully pry out the old grommet and install a new one. Ensure the grommet is fully seated in the reservoir opening.
- 8Install new pumpLubricate the new pump outlet with a small amount of washer fluid. Align the pump with the grommet opening and push firmly until the pump seats fully into the grommet with an audible click. The pump should be secure and not pull out easily.
- 9Reconnect washer hosePush the washer hose firmly onto the pump outlet nipple until it bottoms out. Slide the hose clamp down to secure the hose on the pump outlet, positioning it approximately 1/4 inch from the end of the nipple.
- 10Reconnect electrical connectorConnect the electrical harness to the washer pump, ensuring the connector locks into place with an audible click. Verify the connection is secure by gently pulling on it.
- 11Reinstall wheel well linerPosition the wheel well liner back into place and reinstall all push-pin fasteners removed earlier. Ensure all fasteners are fully seated and the liner is secure.
- 12Reconnect battery and refill fluidReconnect the negative battery terminal and torque to specification. Refill the washer fluid reservoir with up to 3.5 quarts of windshield washer fluid.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Ensure all electrical connections are secure and properly locked
- Verify wheel well liner is properly installed with all fasteners secured
- Check that washer hose is clamped securely to prevent leaks
- Fill reservoir to the full mark with fresh washer fluid
Verification
- With the engine off and ignition on, activate the windshield washer system and verify fluid sprays properly from both nozzles
- Check for leaks at the pump connection point and hose connection
- Listen for normal pump operation without unusual noises or grinding
- Verify pump stops when washer control is released
- Inspect the area around the reservoir and pump for any fluid leaks after several spray cycles
