This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the climate control module (HVAC control head) located in the center dashboard of the 2015-2020 Ford F-150.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and set parking brake
2. Turn ignition off and remove key
3. Disconnect battery negative terminal and wait 2 minutes
4. Allow vehicle interior to reach comfortable working temperature
5. Set steering wheel to lowest position for better access

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove center lower trim panel
   Use trim removal tool to carefully pry out the lower center dash trim panel below the climate controls. Start at the bottom edges and work upward. Pull panel away from dash to release retaining clips. No fasteners are used on this panel.

   Remove center finish panel
   Locate and remove the two 7mm screws at the bottom of the center finish panel (surrounding the climate controls and radio). Use trim tool to release clips around the perimeter of the panel. Gently pull panel forward approximately 2 inches to access connectors.
   Torque spec

   Cover Screws12 Nm (9 lb-ft)

   Disconnect finish panel electrical connectors
   Disconnect the hazard switch connector, traction control switch connector (if equipped), and any other electrical connectors behind the center finish panel. Press release tabs while pulling connectors straight out. Remove panel completely from vehicle.

   Remove climate control module mounting screws
   Locate the four 7mm screws securing the climate control module to the dashboard frame. Two screws are positioned at the top corners and two at the bottom corners of the module. Remove all four screws and retain them in a magnetic tray.
   Torque spec

   Cover Screws12 Nm (9 lb-ft)

   Extract climate control module
   Carefully pull the climate control module forward out of the dashboard opening approximately 3-4 inches. Tilt the top of the module toward you for better access to the rear connectors. Support the module with one hand while accessing connectors with the other.

   Disconnect climate control connectors
   Locate the main electrical connector (gray, 12-pin) and the vacuum harness connector (if equipped with manual climate control) on the rear of the module. Press the release tab on the electrical connector and pull straight back. Disconnect vacuum lines if present by pulling firmly. Remove old module from vehicle.

   Install new climate control module
   Connect the main electrical connector to the new module until it clicks into place. Verify the release tab is fully engaged. Connect vacuum harness if equipped. Carefully guide the module into the dashboard opening, ensuring no wires are pinched behind it.

   Secure climate control module
   Align the module mounting holes with the dashboard frame. Install all four 7mm mounting screws finger-tight first to ensure proper alignment, then tighten in a cross pattern to ensure even seating of the module.
   Torque spec

   Reinstall center finish panel
   Reconnect all electrical connectors to the center finish panel (hazard switch, traction control, etc.). Position the panel approximately 2 inches from the dashboard and verify all connectors are secure. Align panel with dashboard opening and press firmly around perimeter to engage all clips. Install the two 7mm bottom screws.
   Torque spec

   Cover Screws12 Nm (9 lb-ft)

    Reinstall lower trim panel
    Align the lower center dash trim panel with its mounting location. Press firmly at all clip locations around the perimeter until each clip is fully engaged and the panel sits flush with surrounding trim.

    Reconnect battery and initialize system
    Reconnect the battery negative terminal. Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine. Verify the climate control display illuminates. Cycle through all climate control functions (fan speeds, temperature settings, mode selections, and recirculation) to ensure proper operation.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all trim panels are fully seated and clips are engaged before testing
2. Verify no rattles or loose panels after reassembly
3. If equipped with automatic climate control, the system may require a brief initialization period on first startup

Verification

• Turn ignition to ON and verify climate control display illuminates properly
• Test all fan speed settings from 1-7 and verify blower motor responds
• Verify temperature adjustment controls respond in both heat and cool directions
• Test all mode selections (defrost, floor, panel, bi-level) and verify proper operation
• Check recirculation button and AC button for proper engagement and indicator lights
• If equipped with dual-zone climate control, verify passenger side controls function independently
• Verify no warning lights or fault messages appear on instrument cluster
• Test with engine running to confirm full HVAC system integration
