Fuel Pump Relay

This procedure replaces the fuel pump relay, which controls power to the fuel pump system on the 2015-2020 Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost.

• Fuel pump relay × 1 — Ford DS7Z-14B192-B or equivalent

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
2. Turn ignition to OFF position and remove key
3. Open hood and secure with prop rod
4. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes for system capacitors to discharge
5. Locate the power distribution box on driver side of engine compartment near firewall
6. Identify fuel pump relay position using diagram on underside of power distribution box cover (typically labeled FP RELAY or position F24)

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove power distribution box cover
   Release the locking tabs on both sides of the power distribution box cover by pressing inward. Lift cover straight up to remove. Set cover aside with interior facing up to protect printed relay diagram.

   Document relay position
   Verify fuel pump relay location using diagram on cover. On 2015-2020 F-150 3.5L EcoBoost, fuel pump relay is typically a brown or gray relay in position F24. Take photo or note exact position before removal to ensure correct reinstallation.

   Remove old fuel pump relay
   Grasp fuel pump relay firmly and pull straight up with steady pressure to release from socket. Relay may require moderate force to overcome socket grip. Do not rock side to side as this can damage socket pins.

   Inspect relay socket
   Examine relay socket for corrosion, burnt terminals, or damaged pins. Socket terminals should be clean and springy. If corrosion or burning is present, socket replacement and electrical system diagnosis by professional is required before installing new relay.

   Verify new relay specifications
   Compare new relay part number and terminal configuration to old relay. Fuel pump relay for 3.5L EcoBoost should be a 4-pin micro relay rated for 30-40 amps. Verify terminal layout matches original relay exactly.

   Install new fuel pump relay
   Align new relay terminals with socket pins. Push relay straight down into socket with firm, even pressure until relay seats completely flush with socket base. Relay should click into place and sit level with surrounding relays. Do not force at an angle.

   Reinstall power distribution box cover
   Position cover over relay box, aligning front edge first. Press down firmly on all edges until locking tabs click securely into place. Cover should sit flush with no gaps.

   Reconnect battery
   Reconnect negative battery terminal. Tighten terminal bolt securely by hand, then snug with wrench. Do not overtighten battery terminal.

Reassembly

1. Ensure power distribution box cover is fully seated and all tabs are engaged
2. Verify no tools or parts are left in engine compartment
3. Close hood securely

Verification

• Turn ignition to ON position (do not start engine). Listen for fuel pump priming sound from rear of vehicle for 2-3 seconds. This confirms relay is providing power to fuel pump
• Start engine and verify normal startup with no extended cranking. Engine should start within 1-2 seconds of cranking
• Allow engine to idle for 2 minutes and verify stable idle with no stalling
• Check for any new warning lights on instrument cluster, particularly check engine light
• Turn engine off and restart to confirm consistent operation
• If check engine light illuminates or fuel pump does not prime, relay may be faulty or installed in wrong position. Recheck relay location against diagram
