Parts

  • HVAC control panel assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition to OFF position and remove key
  3. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes for airbag system capacitors to discharge
  4. Set steering wheel to straight-ahead position for easier access
  5. Gather replacement HVAC control panel and verify correct part number matches vehicle configuration

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove lower center trim panel
Using plastic trim tools, carefully pry out the lower center console trim panel below the HVAC controls. Start at the bottom edge and work around the perimeter. This panel is held by push clips only. Pull straight out once clips are released to avoid breaking tabs.
  2. 2
    Remove center stack trim bezel
Insert trim tool at the bottom edge of the center stack bezel surrounding the HVAC controls and radio. Gently pry outward to release the lower clips first, then work up both sides. The bezel snaps into place with approximately 8-10 retaining clips. Pull the bezel forward approximately 2 inches but do not fully remove yet.
  3. 3
    Disconnect hazard switch connector
Reach behind the center stack bezel and locate the hazard switch electrical connector on the back of the bezel. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight off. Now fully remove the bezel and set aside in a safe location to avoid scratching.
  4. 4
Remove HVAC control panel mounting screws
Locate the four T20 Torx screws securing the HVAC control panel to the instrument panel frame. There are two screws on the top edge and two on the bottom edge. Remove all four screws and place in magnetic tray. Do not drop screws into dash cavity.

  5. 5
    Pull HVAC control panel forward
Carefully pull the HVAC control panel straight forward out of the instrument panel opening approximately 3-4 inches. Support the panel with one hand while accessing connectors from behind. Do not let the panel hang by the electrical connectors.
  6. 6
    Disconnect main electrical connector
Locate the large gray main electrical connector on the back of the HVAC control panel. Press down on the locking tab while pulling the connector straight back away from the panel. This connector may be tight; use firm steady pressure rather than jerking motions.
  7. 7
Disconnect temperature blend door cables (if equipped)
If your vehicle has manual temperature control cables rather than full electronic control, disconnect the cable ends from the HVAC panel levers by rotating the cable end clips 90 degrees and pulling off. Note the position and routing of cables for reinstallation. Vehicles with dual-zone climate control are typically fully electronic and will not have these cables.
  8. 8
    Remove old HVAC control panel
With all electrical connections and cables disconnected, remove the HVAC control panel completely from the vehicle. Inspect the mounting bracket and screw holes for any damage. Clean any dust or debris from the mounting area before installing new panel.
  9. 9
Install new HVAC control panel connectors
Position the new HVAC control panel near the dash opening. Reconnect the main electrical connector by aligning the connector and pressing firmly until the locking tab clicks into place. If equipped with manual temperature cables, reconnect cable ends to the proper levers and rotate clips to lock in position. Verify cables move freely through their full range of motion.
  10. 10
Install and secure new control panel
Carefully guide the new HVAC control panel into the instrument panel opening, ensuring all wiring and cables are routed behind the panel and not pinched. Align the panel flush with the surrounding instrument panel surface. Install the four T20 Torx mounting screws and tighten to specification in a cross pattern (top left, bottom right, top right, bottom left) to ensure even seating.

  11. 11
    Reinstall center stack bezel
Reconnect the hazard switch electrical connector to the back of the center stack bezel. Position the bezel over the HVAC control panel and radio, aligning all mounting clips with their corresponding holes. Press firmly around the perimeter starting at the top and working down until all clips snap into place. Ensure bezel is flush and gaps are even.
  12. 12
    Reinstall lower trim panel
Align the lower center console trim panel with its mounting location. Press firmly around the perimeter to engage all push clips. Verify the panel is fully seated and flush with surrounding trim.

Reassembly

  1. Reconnect negative battery terminal
  2. Verify all trim panels are properly seated with even gaps and no protruding edges
  3. Reset clock and radio presets as needed

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position (engine off) and verify HVAC control panel illuminates
  • Test all HVAC functions including fan speed, temperature adjustment, mode selection, and recirculation button
  • Start engine and verify air conditioning and heating both function properly at all fan speeds
  • Test all vent positions (defrost, floor, panel, bi-level) to ensure proper airflow
  • Verify rear defroster and A/C buttons activate their respective systems
  • Check that auto climate control functions properly if equipped, including dual-zone temperature settings
  • Inspect all reinstalled trim panels for proper fit and secure mounting
