Warnings

Preparation

  3. Locate the radiator cap on top of the radiator assembly at the front of the vehicle

    Touch the upper radiator hose with the back of your hand to confirm it is cool. If the hose is warm or hot, wait longer for the engine to cool completely.

    Remove the old radiator cap
    Place a shop towel over the radiator cap. Press down firmly on the cap while turning counterclockwise to the first stop. Wait a few seconds to allow any residual pressure to escape, then press down again and continue turning counterclockwise to remove the cap completely.

    Inspect the radiator filler neck
    Examine the radiator filler neck for cracks, damage, or corrosion on the sealing surface. Clean any debris from the neck using a clean shop towel. If damage is present, the radiator may need replacement.

    Check coolant level
    With the cap removed, verify the coolant level is visible near the top of the radiator neck. If coolant is low, top off with Motorcraft Orange Coolant to the proper level before installing the new cap.

    Install the new radiator cap
    Align the new radiator cap tabs with the slots on the radiator filler neck. Press down firmly and turn clockwise until the cap locks into place with a distinct click or stop. Ensure the cap is fully seated and locked.
