Parts

  • Engine oil filter × 1 — Motorcraft FL-910S or equivalent
  • Engine air filter × 1 — Motorcraft FA-1927 or equivalent
  • Cabin air filter × 1 — Motorcraft FP-67 or equivalent
  • Oil drain plug crush washer × 1 — Use OEM specification

Fluids

  • Motorcraft 0W-20 Full Synthetic — 7.5 qt
  • Windshield Washer Fluid — 3.5 qt

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
  3. Allow engine to cool completely if recently operated
  4. Gather all tools, parts, and fluids before beginning
  5. Verify you have correct oil filter and air filters for this specific model year

Procedure

  1. 1
    Raise and secure vehicle
Raise front of vehicle using floor jack at designated front jacking point. Place jack stands under frame rails behind front wheels. Lower vehicle onto jack stands and verify stability before working underneath.
  2. 2
    Drain engine oil
Position drain pan under oil pan drain plug. Remove drain plug using appropriate socket and allow oil to drain completely (approximately 5-7 minutes). Inspect drain plug threads and sealing surface for damage. Discard old crush washer.
Oil may still be warm. Wear appropriate gloves to prevent contact with hot oil
  3. 3
    Remove oil filter
Locate oil filter on driver side of engine block near front. Position drain pan underneath. Use oil filter wrench to loosen and remove filter by turning counterclockwise. Allow residual oil to drain. Inspect filter mounting surface on engine block and clean if necessary.
  4. 4
    Install new oil filter
Apply thin film of clean engine oil to rubber gasket on new oil filter. Thread filter onto mounting boss by hand, turning clockwise. Once gasket contacts mounting surface, tighten an additional 3/4 turn by hand only. Do not use filter wrench for installation.
  5. 5
    Install drain plug
Install new crush washer onto drain plug. Thread drain plug into oil pan by hand to ensure proper engagement. Tighten drain plug to specification using torque wrench.
  6. 6
Lower vehicle and add engine oil
Raise vehicle slightly off jack stands, remove stands, and lower vehicle to ground. Locate oil filler cap on passenger side valve cover. Remove cap and insert funnel. Add 7 quarts of Motorcraft 0W-20 synthetic oil initially. Wait 2 minutes, then check dipstick and add remaining oil to bring level to full mark (approximately 0.5 quarts). Install oil filler cap.
  7. 7
    Replace engine air filter
Open hood and locate air filter housing on driver side of engine bay. Release air box clips by pressing tabs and lifting. Remove cover and extract old air filter. Inspect housing for debris and clean if necessary. Install new air filter ensuring proper orientation with airflow direction arrow. Reinstall cover and secure clips.
  8. 8
    Replace cabin air filter
Open glove box and remove contents. Press inward on both sides of glove box to release stops and allow it to drop fully. Locate cabin air filter access door on right side of HVAC housing. Press release tabs and remove door. Slide out old cabin air filter noting airflow direction arrow. Install new filter with arrow pointing toward rear of vehicle. Reinstall access door and reset glove box stops.
  9. 9
    Check and top off fluids
With engine cold, check coolant level in overflow reservoir (should be at COLD FILL line). Check brake fluid level in master cylinder reservoir (should be between MIN and MAX). Top off windshield washer fluid reservoir. Visually inspect transmission fluid level through dipstick if accessible, but do not attempt to service unless fluid is dark or burnt smelling.
  10. 10
    Inspect belts, hoses, and undercarriage
Visually inspect serpentine belt for cracks, glazing, or fraying. Check all accessible coolant hoses for bulges, cracks, or leaks. Inspect battery terminals for corrosion. Check brake lines for damage or leaks. Inspect exhaust system for damage or loose hangers. Look for fluid leaks from engine, transmission, and differential.
  11. 11
Rotate tires and check tire pressure
Following Ford recommended rotation pattern for RWD (front to rear, same side), loosen lug nuts on all wheels while vehicle is on ground. Raise each corner of vehicle, remove wheel, and rotate according to pattern. Install wheels with lug nuts hand-tight. Lower vehicle and torque all lug nuts in star pattern. Check all tire pressures and adjust to specification on driver door jamb label (typically 35 psi front and rear).
  12. 12
Start engine and check for leaks
Start engine and allow to idle. Immediately check underneath vehicle for oil leaks at drain plug and filter. Monitor oil pressure gauge on instrument cluster to verify normal pressure. Allow engine to reach operating temperature (approximately 5 minutes). Recheck for leaks. Shut off engine and wait 3 minutes, then recheck oil level on dipstick and top off if necessary.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure oil filler cap is securely installed
  2. Verify air filter housing is properly latched
  3. Confirm glove box is properly reinstalled and stops are engaged
  4. Double-check all fluid reservoir caps are tightened
  5. Wipe up any spilled fluids from engine bay and undercarriage

Verification

  • Check oil level on dipstick with engine off - should read at FULL mark
  • Verify no oil leaks at drain plug or filter after test drive
  • Confirm all warning lights are off on instrument cluster
  • Test drive vehicle 5-10 miles and recheck oil level and leaks
  • Verify tire pressures are correct after rotation
  • Reset oil life monitoring system through instrument cluster menu if equipped
  • Document service date and mileage for maintenance records
