Parts
- Heated seat module × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Plastic trim clips (if damaged) × 1 — Ford trim clip assortment
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn ignition off and remove key
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes for airbag system to deplete
- Move seat fully forward to access rear mounting bolts
- Ensure seat heater switches are in OFF position
Procedure
- 1Disconnect BatteryLoosen and remove the negative battery terminal using a 10mm socket. Move the cable away from the battery post to prevent accidental reconnection. Wait at least 2 minutes before proceeding to allow supplemental restraint system capacitors to discharge.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 2Remove Seat Mounting BoltsLocate the four seat mounting bolts (two at front, two at rear). Use an 8mm or 10mm socket depending on model year to remove all four bolts. Some models may use Torx bolts. Keep bolts organized for reinstallation.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 3Tilt Seat BackCarefully tilt the seat backward to access the electrical connectors underneath. You may need an assistant to hold the seat or use a support to prevent it from falling. Be careful not to strain the electrical connectors still attached.⚠Seat is heavy - get assistance if needed to prevent back injury or damage to connectors
- 4Disconnect Seat Electrical ConnectorsLocate all electrical connectors under the seat including the heated seat harness, power seat motors (if equipped), and seat position sensors. Press the release tabs and carefully disconnect each connector. Note the routing and position of each connector for reassembly.⚠Locking tabs are fragile - use proper release technique by pressing tab while pulling connector
- 5Remove Seat from VehicleWith all connectors disconnected, carefully lift the seat assembly out of the vehicle. Place the seat on a clean, protected work surface with cushion facing up. This provides better access to the underside components.⚠Seat weighs approximately 50-70 lbs - use proper lifting technique
- 6Access Heated Seat ModuleTurn the seat upside down or on its side. Locate the heated seat module, which is typically mounted to the seat frame with plastic clips or bolts. The module is a small rectangular box connected to the seat heater element wiring. Remove any protective covers or shields if present.Torque specCover Screws14 Nm (10 lb-ft)
- 7Disconnect Module ConnectorsIdentify the electrical connectors attached to the heated seat module. There will typically be a power/ground connector and connectors to the heating elements in the seat cushion and backrest. Press the locking tabs and carefully disconnect all connectors from the module.ℹ️Take photos before disconnecting to ensure correct reconnection of multiple similar-looking connectors
- 8Remove Module Mounting HardwareRemove the bolts or screws securing the heated seat module to the seat frame using the appropriate socket. Most modules use 10mm bolts or T20 Torx screws. Keep all hardware for reinstallation.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 9Remove Old ModuleOnce all mounting hardware is removed, carefully remove the heated seat module from the seat frame. Inspect the mounting location for any corrosion or damage. Clean the mounting surface if necessary.
- 10Install New ModulePosition the new heated seat module in the same orientation as the original. Align the mounting holes with the seat frame. Install the mounting bolts and tighten to specification using a torque wrench.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 11Reconnect Module ConnectorsReconnect all electrical connectors to the new heated seat module, ensuring each connector clicks into place securely. Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to connector seals if desired for corrosion protection. Verify all connectors are fully seated.
- 12Reinstall Seat in VehicleCarefully lift the seat assembly and position it back in the vehicle, aligning the mounting holes with the floor brackets. Do not fully tighten mounting bolts yet to allow for connector routing.
- 13Reconnect Seat Electrical ConnectorsReconnect all electrical connectors under the seat in reverse order of removal. Ensure proper routing of wiring harnesses to prevent pinching. Verify all connectors click into place and locking tabs are engaged.
- 14Secure Seat Mounting BoltsInstall all four seat mounting bolts and tighten to specification using a torque wrench. Ensure the seat sits flush on all mounting points before final tightening. Verify the seat moves smoothly on its tracks without binding.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 15Reconnect BatteryReconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten the terminal bolt to specification. Do not overtighten as this can damage the terminal or battery post.⚠Ensure terminal is clean and free of corrosion before reconnectionTorque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Ensure all electrical connectors are properly seated and locked
- Verify seat mounting bolts are torqued to specification and seat is secure
- Check that no wiring is pinched or rubbing on sharp edges
- Reset clock and radio presets after battery reconnection
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine
- Test heated seat function by pressing the heated seat switch and verifying the indicator light illuminates
- Allow seat heater to run for 2-3 minutes and feel for warmth in both seat cushion and backrest
- Verify no warning lights are illuminated on the instrument cluster
- Test seat movement in all directions if power seats are equipped
- Ensure seat mounting is secure with no movement or rattles
