Parts

  • Rear power window motor × 1 — Motorcraft or Use OEM specification
  • Door panel clips (if broken) × 1 — Ford retainer clips

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes for airbag system to discharge
  3. Roll rear window to full-up position before beginning work
  4. Gather all tools and replacement parts

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove rear door panel
Remove the screw cover behind the interior door handle. Remove the T20 Torx screw. Remove any screws in the door pull cup area. Carefully use trim panel removal tools to release the perimeter clips starting from the bottom rear corner. Lift the panel up and away from the door frame once all clips are released.
  2. 2
    Disconnect door panel electrical connectors
Disconnect the window switch connector by pressing the release tab and pulling straight out. If equipped with rear power locks or other switches, disconnect those connectors as well. Set the door panel aside in a safe location.
  3. 3
    Remove moisture barrier access
Carefully peel back the plastic moisture barrier sheeting at the lower rear section of the door where the window motor is located. Only remove enough to access the motor mounting bolts and electrical connector. Use masking tape to secure the barrier out of the way without tearing it.
  4. 4
    Secure window in up position
Place masking tape across the top of the window glass to the door frame to prevent the window from dropping once the motor is disconnected. Alternatively, use wooden blocks or foam wedges between the glass and door frame.
  5. 5
    Disconnect window motor electrical connector
Locate the window motor electrical connector at the bottom rear of the door. Press the connector release tab and pull the connector straight off the motor. Note the connector orientation for reinstallation.
  6. 6
    Remove window motor mounting bolts
Remove the three 10mm mounting bolts securing the window motor to the regulator assembly and door frame. Support the motor as you remove the final bolt to prevent it from dropping. Note the bolt locations as they may be different lengths.

  8. 8
    Install new window motor
Position the new window motor into the door through the access hole. Align the motor gear with the regulator drive sector, ensuring proper mesh engagement. Rotate the motor into its mounting position aligning the mounting bolt holes with the door frame and regulator bracket.

Press firmly around all perimeter clips until each audibly clicks into place. Reinstall the T20 Torx screw behind the door handle and install the screw cover.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all door panel clips are fully seated before testing
  2. Verify moisture barrier is completely sealed to prevent water intrusion
  3. Double-check all electrical connectors are locked in place
