Wiper Motor - Rear

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the rear wiper motor on 2015-2020 Ford F-150 models equipped with rear sliding windows.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake.
2. Turn ignition to OFF position and remove key.
3. Open the rear sliding window fully to access the interior trim panel.
4. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes for system power down.
5. Gather all tools and new parts before beginning disassembly.

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove rear window interior trim panel
   From inside the cab, use trim panel removal tools to carefully pry away the plastic trim panel that surrounds the rear sliding window opening. Start at the bottom corners and work around the perimeter. There are typically 8-10 retaining clips holding this panel. Set the panel aside in a safe location to avoid scratching.

   Disconnect wiper motor electrical connector
   Locate the wiper motor electrical connector on the passenger side of the window frame. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight off the motor. If the connector is difficult to remove, use an electrical connector release tool to depress the internal lock tab while pulling.

   Remove wiper arm assembly
   From the exterior of the vehicle, lift the wiper arm away from the glass. Locate the retaining nut at the base of the wiper arm (covered by a small cap). Pry off the cap, then use a 10mm socket to remove the wiper arm retaining nut. Rock the wiper arm gently while pulling away from the glass to remove it from the motor shaft splines.

   Remove exterior wiper motor cover
   From outside the vehicle, locate the plastic cover that surrounds the wiper motor mounting area on the rear glass. Remove the T20 Torx screws securing this cover (typically 2-3 screws). Carefully pull the cover away from the glass and set aside.

   Remove wiper motor mounting bolts
   From inside the cab, locate the three 8mm mounting bolts that secure the wiper motor to the window frame bracket. These bolts are accessed through the opening created by removing the interior trim panel. Remove all three bolts while supporting the motor from the exterior to prevent it from falling.

   Remove wiper motor assembly
   Carefully guide the wiper motor assembly out through the interior opening. The motor shaft will pass through the mounting hole in the window frame. Note the orientation of any seals or gaskets for proper installation of the new motor. Inspect the mounting area for debris or damage.

   Prepare new wiper motor for installation
   Compare the new wiper motor to the old unit to verify correct replacement. Install the mounting gasket or seal onto the new motor if not pre-installed. Ensure the motor shaft is in the park position (fully retracted) before installation. Clean the mounting surface on the window frame with a clean shop towel.

   Install new wiper motor
   From inside the cab, guide the new wiper motor into position with the shaft extending through the window frame mounting hole. Align the motor mounting holes with the bracket. Install the three 8mm mounting bolts finger-tight first, then torque to specification using a torque wrench set to 6 lb-ft (8 Nm). Ensure the motor sits flush against the mounting surface.

   Reconnect electrical connector
   Push the electrical connector firmly onto the wiper motor terminal until you hear and feel a positive click. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully locked in place. Ensure no wires are pinched or stressed.

    Reinstall exterior components
    From outside the vehicle, reinstall the plastic wiper motor cover and secure with the T20 Torx screws. Torque the cover screws to 10 lb-ft (14 Nm). Install the wiper arm onto the motor shaft, aligning the splines and positioning the arm in the correct park position. Install the retaining nut and torque to specification, then snap the cap back into place.

    Reinstall interior trim panel
    Align the interior trim panel with the window frame opening. Starting at the top, press firmly around the perimeter to engage all retaining clips. Verify the panel is fully seated and flush with the surrounding surfaces.

    Reconnect battery and test system
    Reconnect the negative battery terminal and torque to 4 lb-ft (6 Nm) - do not overtighten. Turn the ignition to ON (engine off) and test the rear wiper system through all speeds and intermittent settings. Verify proper park position when turned off. Recalibrate power windows if necessary using the auto up/down feature.

Reassembly

1. Verify all trim panels are fully seated and all fasteners are torqued to specification.
2. Confirm wiper arm returns to proper park position below the glass edge when turned off.
3. Test the rear window washer function if equipped to ensure proper spray pattern.
4. Check for any unusual noise or vibration during wiper operation at all speeds.

Verification

• Turn ignition to ON and operate rear wiper through all speed settings including intermittent mode.
• Verify wiper blade returns to correct park position and motor stops without hesitation.
• Confirm no electrical warning lights appear on the instrument cluster.
• Inspect exterior cover and interior trim panel for proper fit with no gaps or rattles.
• Test rear window washer function (if equipped) to ensure motor replacement did not affect washer operation.
