This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the rear engine mount on a 2015-2020 Ford F-150 with the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine.
Warnings
⚠️Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always use jack stands rated for the vehicle weight.
⚠️Engine must be properly supported before removing mount bolts to prevent engine from dropping and causing injury or damage.
⚠Allow engine to cool completely before beginning work to avoid burns from hot components.
⚠Rear engine mount is located near the transmission and exhaust components. Be aware of sharp edges and hot surfaces.

Parts
- Rear engine mount assembly × 1 — Use OEM Ford specification for 3.5L EcoBoost
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
- Allow engine and exhaust system to cool completely
- Disconnect negative battery cable
- Raise vehicle and secure on jack stands at manufacturer-specified lift points
- Remove plastic belly pan or skid plate if equipped to access rear engine mount area
Procedure
- 1Locate and inspect rear engine mountThe rear engine mount is located at the rear of the engine block near the transmission bell housing. From underneath the vehicle, identify the mount assembly which connects the engine to the crossmember. Inspect the area for any obstructions and determine the best access route.
- 2Support the engine and transmissionPosition an engine support bar across the engine compartment above the engine, or position a transmission jack under the transmission pan with a wood block to distribute load. Raise the support slightly to take tension off the rear mount, but do not lift the engine excessively. The engine should be just barely supported with no weight on the mount.
- 3Remove mount through boltLocate the large through bolt that passes horizontally through the center of the rear mount assembly. Remove the nut from the through bolt using a socket and ratchet. The bolt may be tight, so ensure you have proper leverage. Tap the bolt out using a brass drift or punch if necessary. Keep the bolt and hardware for comparison with the new mount.Torque specMount Through Bolt101 Nm (75 lb-ft)
- 4Remove mount-to-frame boltsLocate the bolts securing the lower portion of the mount bracket to the frame crossmember. There are typically 2-3 bolts depending on the specific mount design. Remove these bolts using a socket and extension. Apply penetrating oil if bolts are corroded. Support the mount with one hand as you remove the final bolt.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)
- 5Remove engine mount-to-block boltsRemove the bolts that secure the upper mount bracket to the engine block. These bolts are accessed from underneath and may require a long extension and swivel socket. There are typically 2-4 bolts. Once removed, the mount assembly can be separated from the engine and lowered away from the vehicle.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Block Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 6Remove and inspect old mountCarefully lower the old mount assembly from the vehicle. Inspect the mount for signs of failure such as torn rubber, oil contamination, separated rubber from metal plates, or collapsed mounting bushings. Compare the old mount to the new replacement to ensure correct application and bracket orientation.
- 7Install new mount to engine blockPosition the new rear mount assembly to the engine block, aligning the bolt holes. Thread in the engine mount-to-block bolts by hand first to ensure proper alignment. Once all bolts are started, tighten them to specification in a crisscross pattern using a torque wrench.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Block Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 8Secure mount to frame crossmemberAlign the lower bracket of the mount assembly with the frame crossmember bolt holes. You may need to raise or lower the engine support slightly to achieve proper alignment. Install the mount-to-frame bolts by hand, then torque to specification.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)
- 9Install mount through boltInsert the through bolt through the center of the mount assembly, ensuring it passes through all mounting bushings and brackets correctly. Install the washer and nut on the end of the through bolt. Torque the through bolt nut to specification. This bolt is critical for proper mount function.Torque specMount Through Bolt101 Nm (75 lb-ft)
- 10Remove engine support and verify alignmentCarefully lower and remove the engine support bar or transmission jack, allowing the engine weight to settle onto the new mount. Check that the engine sits level and that there is no binding or misalignment. Gently rock the engine by hand to ensure the mount is properly seated and functioning.
Reassembly
- Reinstall plastic belly pan or skid plate using original fasteners
- Lower vehicle from jack stands
- Reconnect negative battery cable
- Verify all tools and parts have been removed from engine compartment
Verification
- Start the engine and verify there are no unusual vibrations or noises from the mount area
- With engine running, shift transmission through all gears (with brake applied) and observe mount for excessive movement or abnormal engine deflection
- Perform a brief test drive and confirm smooth operation without excessive engine movement during acceleration and deceleration
- Inspect mount area for any signs of contact or interference with surrounding components
- Re-check all mount bolt torque after initial test drive if desired for critical applications
