This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor on the 2015-2020 Ford F-150 with the 5.0L Coyote V8 engine.
Warnings
⚠Allow engine to cool completely before beginning work. Intake manifold components can retain heat for extended periods.
ℹ️The MAP sensor is located on the upper intake manifold. Ensure proper identification before removal.
⚠Do not force the MAP sensor during removal as this may damage the intake manifold mounting boss.

Parts
- Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor × 1 — Use OEM specification or Motorcraft CM5310
- MAP Sensor O-ring seal × 1 — Usually included with sensor
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
- Allow engine to cool to ambient temperature (minimum 30 minutes after running)
- Disconnect negative battery cable and wait 2 minutes for system capacitors to discharge
- Open hood and secure with prop rod
- Locate the MAP sensor on the driver's side of the upper intake manifold near the throttle body
Procedure
- 1Access the MAP sensorRemove the engine cover by lifting upward from the rear clips first, then pulling forward to release the front grommets. Set the cover aside in a clean area. The MAP sensor will now be visible on the upper intake manifold.
- 2Disconnect the electrical connectorPress down on the connector lock tab and pull the electrical connector straight off the MAP sensor. Do not twist or rock the connector. Inspect the connector pins for corrosion or damage. If necessary, use electrical contact cleaner on the connector and allow to dry completely.
- 3Remove the MAP sensor mounting hardwareUsing a T20 Torx bit or screwdriver, carefully remove the two MAP sensor mounting screws. These screws are typically torqued to a low specification and can be delicate. Keep the screws in a safe location for reinstallation or replacement.Torque specMAP Sensor Screws3 Nm (2 lb-ft)
- 4Extract the MAP sensorGently pull the MAP sensor straight out from the intake manifold boss. The sensor has an O-ring seal that may create slight resistance. If the sensor is stuck, gently rotate it back and forth while pulling outward. Do not use excessive force or pry tools that could damage the manifold.
- 5Inspect and clean the mounting areaRemove the old O-ring from the MAP sensor port if it remained in the manifold. Inspect the mounting boss for cracks or damage. Clean the mounting surface and port opening with a lint-free cloth. Use compressed air to blow out any debris from the port. Ensure no foreign material enters the intake manifold.
- 6Prepare the new MAP sensorRemove the new MAP sensor from packaging and verify it matches the original sensor configuration. Install the new O-ring seal onto the sensor body, ensuring it seats properly in the groove. Lightly lubricate the O-ring with clean engine oil to ease installation if desired.
- 7Install the new MAP sensorCarefully insert the new MAP sensor into the intake manifold port, ensuring the O-ring does not roll or pinch. Push the sensor fully into place until it seats against the manifold surface. Align the screw holes with the mounting boss.
- 8Secure the MAP sensorInstall the two MAP sensor mounting screws by hand first to ensure proper thread engagement. Using a torque wrench, tighten the screws to 3.0 Nm (2.0 lb-ft) in a cross-pattern. Do not overtighten as this may crack the sensor housing or strip the threads in the manifold.Torque specMAP Sensor Screws3 Nm (2 lb-ft)
- 9Reconnect the electrical connectorPush the electrical connector firmly onto the new MAP sensor until you hear and feel a positive click. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully locked in place. Ensure the connector seal is properly seated to prevent moisture intrusion.
- 10Reinstall engine cover and reconnect batteryReinstall the engine cover by aligning the front grommets first, then pressing down firmly on the rear clips until they snap into place. Reconnect the negative battery cable and tighten the terminal clamp securely.
Reassembly
- Ensure all electrical connections are fully seated and locked
- Verify engine cover is properly secured at all mounting points
- Double-check that no tools or parts were left in the engine compartment
Verification
- Turn the ignition key to the ON position without starting the engine. The check engine light should illuminate briefly then extinguish as part of the bulb check
- Start the engine and allow it to idle. The engine should idle smoothly without rough running or stalling
- Using an OBD-II scanner, verify there are no MAP sensor-related diagnostic trouble codes (P0105-P0109)
- Monitor live data from the MAP sensor using a scan tool. At idle, the sensor should read approximately 28-32 kPa at sea level, varying with altitude
- Rev the engine to 2500 RPM and observe that MAP sensor readings increase appropriately with throttle input
- Test drive the vehicle and confirm smooth acceleration, proper power delivery, and no check engine light illumination
