Parts
- Front power window motor × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Door panel clips (if damaged) × 1 — Ford push-pin retainers
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 5 minutes for airbag system to discharge
- Roll window fully up before beginning work (if motor still functions)
- Gather all tools and new parts before starting
Procedure
- 1Remove door panel trim and switchesUse trim removal tool to carefully pry out the mirror trim cover at the front corner of the door panel. Remove the T20 Torx screws behind the cover. Disconnect the power mirror switch connector. Remove the door handle trim by inserting a panel tool behind it and releasing the clips. Disconnect the window and door lock switch connectors by pressing the release tabs.
- 2Remove door panel mounting screwsLocate and remove all T30 Torx screws securing the door panel. There is typically one screw in the door pull/armrest area, one behind the interior door handle, and one or two along the bottom edge of the panel. Keep screws organized for reinstallation.
- 3Remove door panelStarting at the bottom rear corner, use a panel removal tool to release the push-pin clips securing the door panel to the door frame. Work your way around the perimeter, being careful not to break clips. Once all clips are released, lift the panel up and away from the door to disengage the top edge from the window channel. Set panel aside on a protected surface.
- 4Remove water barrierCarefully peel back the plastic water barrier sheet from the door frame. If it's adhered with butyl sealant, work slowly to avoid tearing. You'll need to reuse this or replace it with new vapor barrier material. Only peel back enough to access the window motor area.
- 5Secure the window glassIf the window is in the down position, you'll need to manually raise it. Use masking tape to secure the window glass to the door frame in the full-up position to prevent it from falling when the motor is disconnected. Apply tape from the top of the glass to the door frame exterior.
- 6Disconnect window motor electrical connectorLocate the window motor electrical connector inside the door cavity. Press the connector locking tab and pull the connector straight off the motor. The connector may have a secondary locking clip that needs to be released first.
- 7Remove window motor mounting boltsUsing a 10mm socket with extension, remove the three bolts securing the window motor to the regulator assembly and door frame. The motor is typically mounted with bracket bolts. Support the motor as you remove the last bolt to prevent it from falling into the door cavity.Torque specBracket Bolts26 Nm (19 lb-ft)
- 8Remove window motorCarefully maneuver the window motor out of the door cavity through the access hole. You may need to rotate it slightly to clear the door frame and regulator assembly. Inspect the regulator for damage or wear while the motor is removed.
- 9Install new window motorPosition the new window motor into the door cavity and align it with the regulator assembly mounting points. Ensure the motor gear properly engages with the regulator mechanism before securing. Start all three mounting bolts by hand before tightening.
- 10Torque motor mounting boltsUsing a torque wrench, tighten the three window motor bracket bolts to specification in a cross pattern to ensure even mounting pressure. Verify the motor is securely mounted and does not move when pressed.Torque specBracket Bolts26 Nm (19 lb-ft)
- 11Reconnect electrical connector and testReconnect the window motor electrical connector, ensuring it clicks into place. Temporarily reconnect the negative battery terminal. Test window operation before reassembling the door panel. Window should move smoothly up and down without binding. If testing is successful, disconnect battery again before final reassembly.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 12Reinstall water barrier and door panelPress the water barrier sheet back into place, ensuring complete adhesion around all edges to prevent water intrusion. Align the door panel with the window channel and slide it down into position. Press firmly around the perimeter to engage all push-pin clips. Reinstall all T30 Torx screws, then reconnect switch connectors and install trim pieces.
Reassembly
- Ensure all door panel clips are fully seated before testing window operation
- Reconnect negative battery terminal and verify window auto-up/auto-down feature functions properly
- Perform window relearn procedure: roll window fully down, hold switch down for 2 seconds, then roll fully up and hold switch up for 2 seconds
- Check that all door switches and controls function correctly
- Verify door panel is secure with no rattles or loose areas
Verification
- Test window operation from both driver controls and door-mounted switch through full travel range
- Verify auto-up and auto-down features work correctly (if equipped)
- Check that window stops properly at full up and full down positions without unusual noise
- Confirm door panel is properly secured with no gaps or loose trim pieces
- Test all door-mounted switches to ensure proper reconnection
