Complete replacement of all engine mounts (left, right, and rear) on the 5.0L V8 Coyote engine, requiring engine support and partial disassembly of surrounding components.
Warnings
⚠️Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always use jack stands and an engine support fixture.
⚠️The engine must be properly supported from above before removing mounts. Engine shift can cause severe injury or death.
⚠Perform this work on a completely cold engine. Hot components can cause burns.
⚠Engine mounts support significant weight. Do not place hands or body parts between engine and frame during installation.
ℹ️Mark or photograph electrical connector and bracket positions before removal for correct reassembly.

Parts
- Left engine mount assembly × 1 — Ford FL3Z-6038-D or equivalent
- Right engine mount assembly × 1 — Ford FL3Z-6038-C or equivalent
- Rear engine mount (transmission mount) × 1 — Ford FL3Z-6068-B or equivalent
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and secure away from battery post
- Allow engine to cool completely (minimum 2 hours after operation)
- Raise vehicle and support securely on jack stands at manufacturer lift points
- Remove engine cover by pulling upward to release retaining clips
- Spray all mount bolts with penetrating oil and allow to soak for 15-20 minutes
- Install engine support fixture across engine bay or use engine support beam capable of supporting 600+ lbs
- Take weight off mounts by slightly lifting engine with support fixture (approximately 1/4 inch)
Procedure
- 1Remove right (passenger side) engine mount upper fastenersFrom above, locate the right engine mount attached to the engine block. Disconnect any electrical connectors or brackets attached to the mount. Remove the upper mount-to-block bolts using an 18mm socket. There are typically 3-4 bolts securing the mount to the engine block. Support the mount as you remove the final bolt.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Block Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 2Remove right engine mount lower fasteners and extract mountFrom underneath the vehicle, locate the through-bolt that passes horizontally through the mount and frame bracket. Remove the nut from the through-bolt using a 15mm socket. Remove the through-bolt completely. Remove the mount-to-frame bolts (typically 2 bolts) using an 18mm socket. Extract the right engine mount assembly downward through the chassis. Inspect frame bracket for damage or excessive wear.Torque specMount Through Bolt110 Nm (81 lb-ft)Engine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)
- 3Remove left (driver side) engine mount upper fastenersFrom above, locate the left engine mount attached to the engine block. Remove any heat shields or brackets that may restrict access. Remove the upper mount-to-block bolts using an 18mm socket. Similar to the right side, there are typically 3-4 bolts. Keep fasteners organized by side for reassembly.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Block Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 4Remove left engine mount lower fasteners and extract mountFrom underneath, remove the through-bolt nut and through-bolt from the left mount using a 15mm socket. Remove the mount-to-frame bolts securing the mount to the frame bracket. Extract the left engine mount assembly downward. Verify engine remains stable on support fixture.Torque specMount Through Bolt110 Nm (81 lb-ft)Engine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)
- 5Support transmission for rear mount removalPlace hydraulic floor jack with wood block under the transmission oil pan. Raise jack until it just contacts the transmission (do not lift). This will support the transmission when the rear mount is removed. Ensure jack is centered and stable.⚠Use only a wood block between jack and transmission pan to prevent pan damage. Do not use metal directly against the pan.
- 6Remove rear engine mount (transmission mount)Locate the rear mount at the transmission tailhousing or extension housing. Remove the transmission mount bolts connecting the mount to the transmission crossmember (typically 4 bolts, 15mm). Remove the crossmember-to-frame bolts if necessary for clearance. Lower the jack slightly to allow removal of the mount. Extract the rear mount assembly.Torque specTransmission Mount Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 7Clean all mounting surfacesUse a wire brush to clean all mounting surfaces on the engine block, frame brackets, and transmission. Remove all rust, debris, and old thread locker compound. Clean bolt threads with a wire brush. Inspect frame brackets for cracks, elongated holes, or damage. Replace brackets if damaged.ℹ️Clean mounting surfaces are critical for proper torque values and mount longevity.
- 8Install new right engine mountPosition the new right engine mount into the frame bracket from below. Install mount-to-frame bolts finger-tight. Align the mount with the engine block mounting holes. Install the upper mount-to-block bolts and tighten to specification using a torque wrench. Install the through-bolt and nut, but do not fully torque yet.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Block Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 9Install new left engine mountPosition the new left engine mount into the frame bracket. Install mount-to-frame bolts finger-tight. Align with engine block and install upper mount-to-block bolts, torquing to specification. Install through-bolt and nut finger-tight. Verify mount alignment before final torquing.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Block Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 10Install new rear transmission mountPosition new rear mount on transmission. Raise transmission jack slightly to align mount with crossmember. Install transmission mount bolts and torque to specification. If crossmember was removed, reinstall and torque crossmember-to-frame bolts. Verify transmission is properly aligned.Torque specTransmission Mount Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 11Torque all lower mount fastenersLower engine support fixture gradually to transfer engine weight onto new mounts. Ensure engine settles evenly. Torque right side mount-to-frame bolts and through-bolt to specification. Torque left side mount-to-frame bolts and through-bolt to specification. Verify all fasteners are torqued in the correct sequence.⚠Lower engine slowly while observing mount alignment. Misalignment can damage new mounts or create vibration issues.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)Mount Through Bolt110 Nm (81 lb-ft)
- 12Remove support equipment and reinstall componentsRemove transmission jack carefully. Remove engine support fixture. Reconnect all electrical connectors, brackets, and heat shields removed during disassembly. Reinstall engine cover by aligning clips and pressing firmly until seated. Lower vehicle from jack stands.ℹ️Verify all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked before starting engine.
Reassembly
- Reconnect negative battery terminal and torque to 8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- Double-check that all mount bolts are torqued to specification
- Verify no tools or parts were left in engine bay
- Ensure all heat shields and covers are reinstalled properly
Verification
- Start engine and verify it idles smoothly without excessive vibration or movement
- With engine running, shift transmission through all gears (foot on brake) and observe for unusual engine movement
- Perform a test drive at various speeds and verify no abnormal vibrations, especially during acceleration
- Inspect all mount locations from underneath for proper alignment and secure fastening
- Listen for clunking noises during acceleration or deceleration that would indicate loose mounts
- After 50-100 miles of driving, re-inspect all mount bolts for proper torque retention
