This procedure covers removal and replacement of the front engine mount on a 2021-2024 Ford F-150 with 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine.
Warnings
⚠️Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always use jack stands and ensure the engine is properly supported before removing mount bolts.
⚠The engine will shift when the mount is removed. Ensure the engine support system is secure before removing any mounting bolts.
⚠Allow the engine to cool completely before beginning work to avoid burn injuries.

Parts
- Front engine mount assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Engine mount through-bolt × 1 — Recommended to replace
Preparation
- Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake
- Allow the engine to cool completely if recently operated
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal
- Raise the front of the vehicle and secure on jack stands at the frame rails
- Remove the front skid plate or lower engine cover if equipped
Procedure
- 1Install engine support systemPosition an engine support bar across the engine bay fender rails, or attach an engine hoist to secure lifting points on the engine. Apply slight upward tension to support the engine weight but do not lift the engine yet. Verify the support is secure before proceeding.
- 2Position floor jack under transmissionPlace a floor jack with a transmission adapter or wood block under the transmission pan. Raise the jack to just contact the transmission without lifting. This provides secondary support and allows controlled lowering during mount removal.
- 3Remove engine mount through-boltLocate the large through-bolt that passes horizontally through the engine mount and frame bracket. Apply penetrating oil if necessary. Remove the nut from the through-bolt and drive the bolt out using a punch or drift. The bolt may be tight due to load compression.
- 4Support engine weightUsing the engine support bar or hoist, carefully raise the engine approximately 1-2 inches to relieve all load from the front engine mount. Monitor that no hoses, wires, or components are stressed during lifting. Adjust jack under transmission as needed to keep powertrain level.
- 5Remove mount-to-engine boltsLocate the bolts securing the engine mount bracket to the engine block. There are typically 3-4 bolts. Remove all bolts securing the mount to the engine block. Keep bolts organized for reinstallation.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Block Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 6Remove mount-to-frame boltsRemove the bolts securing the engine mount assembly to the subframe or crossmember. Access may require working from below the vehicle. Support the mount as you remove the final bolt to prevent it from falling.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)
- 7Remove engine mount assemblyCarefully maneuver the front engine mount assembly out from between the engine and frame. It may require slight repositioning of the engine height or angle. Inspect the mount for signs of failure such as torn rubber, fluid leakage, or separated components.
- 8Clean mounting surfacesUse a wire brush to clean the engine block mounting surface and frame mounting surface. Remove any rust, debris, or old thread-locking compound from bolt holes. Inspect mounting surfaces for cracks or damage.
- 9Install new engine mount to framePosition the new front engine mount assembly onto the subframe or crossmember. Start all mount-to-frame bolts by hand to ensure proper alignment before tightening. Torque bolts to specification in a cross pattern.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)
- 10Install mount to engine blockAlign the engine mount bracket with the mounting holes on the engine block. Start all bolts by hand. Torque the mount-to-block bolts to specification in a cross pattern to ensure even loading.Torque specEngine Mount-to-Block Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
- 11Lower engine onto mountUsing the engine support bar or hoist, carefully lower the engine until the mount holes align for the through-bolt. Use a pry bar if needed to align holes, but do not force. Lower the transmission jack simultaneously to maintain proper powertrain angle.
- 12Install through-boltInsert the new or cleaned through-bolt through the engine mount and frame bracket. Install the nut on the through-bolt and torque to specification. Ensure the bolt passes completely through and the nut seats properly.
- 13Remove engine support and jackCarefully remove the engine support bar or disconnect the hoist. Lower and remove the floor jack from under the transmission. Verify the engine sits properly on the new mount without unusual angles or sagging.
Reassembly
- Reinstall the front skid plate or lower engine cover if removed
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal
- Lower the vehicle from jack stands
Verification
- Start the engine and verify no unusual vibrations or movement
- With the engine running, shift through all transmission gears to verify smooth operation without excessive engine movement
- Perform a visual inspection under the vehicle to confirm all bolts are tight and the mount is properly seated
- Test drive the vehicle and monitor for vibrations, particularly during acceleration and deceleration
