This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the front fog light assembly on a 2021-2024 Ford F-150 with 3.5L EcoBoost engine, including bulb and housing replacement.

Warnings

Allow fog lights to cool completely before starting work to avoid burns from hot bulbs or housing
ℹ️Fog light assemblies are side-specific; verify correct driver or passenger side before ordering parts

Tools required

10mm socket and ratchetEssential
Flathead screwdriver
Trim panel removal tool setEssential
Torque wrench
Work light or flashlight

Parts

  • Fog light assembly (left or right as needed) × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Fog light bulb (if not included with assembly) × 1 — H11 or H16 depending on trim

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn off ignition and all lighting
  3. Allow fog lights to cool for at least 15 minutes if recently used
  4. Turn front wheels to full lock away from the side being serviced for better access

Procedure

  1. 1
Access the fog light from wheel well
Remove the plastic push pins securing the front portion of the wheel well liner using a trim panel removal tool. Pull back the liner to expose the rear of the fog light assembly. You do not need to completely remove the liner, just create enough clearance to access the fog light.
  2. 2
    Disconnect electrical connector
Locate the fog light electrical connector at the rear of the assembly. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight out from the fog light socket. If connector is difficult to access, you may need to pull the wheel well liner back further.
  3. 3
    Remove fog light mounting fasteners
Locate the mounting bolt or screw securing the fog light assembly to the bumper bracket. Use a 10mm socket to remove the fastener. Some models may use a push-pin style retainer instead of a bolt. Note the orientation of any alignment tabs or clips.
  4. 4
Remove fog light assembly from bumper
Carefully pull the fog light assembly forward and out of the bumper opening. The assembly may have locating tabs that require slight rotation or angling to clear the bumper. Be gentle to avoid breaking mounting tabs on the bumper or housing.
  5. 5
Remove bulb from old assembly (if reusing bulb)
If replacing only the housing, rotate the bulb socket counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn and pull the bulb and socket out of the old fog light housing. Handle bulbs by the base only, never touch the glass with bare hands as oils can cause premature failure.
  6. 6
    Install bulb in new assembly
Insert the fog light bulb socket into the new housing, ensuring any alignment tabs are properly positioned. Rotate clockwise 1/4 turn until it clicks and locks into place. Verify the bulb is secure and properly seated.
  7. 7
    Position new fog light assembly
Insert the new fog light assembly into the bumper opening, aligning all locating tabs and ensuring the mounting hole lines up with the bracket. The assembly should sit flush with the bumper surface when properly positioned.
  8. 8
    Install mounting fastener
Install the mounting bolt or push-pin retainer and tighten securely. If using a bolt, tighten to snug specification by hand plus 1/4 turn. Do not overtighten as this can crack the plastic housing or mounting bracket.
  9. 9
    Reconnect electrical connector
Push the electrical connector firmly into the fog light socket until you hear or feel the locking tab click into place. Give the connector a gentle tug to verify it is fully seated and locked.
  10. 10
    Reinstall wheel well liner
Reposition the wheel well liner to its original location and reinstall all push pins. Ensure the liner is properly seated and does not interfere with tire movement through full steering range.

Reassembly

  1. Verify all wheel well liner push pins are fully seated and secure
  2. Ensure no tools or parts were left in the wheel well area
  3. Return steering wheel to center position

Verification

  • Turn on the fog lights using the vehicle's switch and verify the new fog light illuminates properly
  • Check that fog light beam pattern is correct and aligned with the opposite side
  • Verify no warning lights appear on the instrument cluster
  • Inspect the fog light housing to ensure it is seated flush with the bumper and all mounting points are secure
  • Turn the steering wheel full lock in both directions while stationary to verify the wheel well liner does not contact the tire
