Replace the fog light bulb on a 2021-2024 Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost by accessing the bulb housing from behind the front bumper fascia.

Warnings

Allow fog lights to cool for at least 10 minutes before attempting bulb replacement to avoid burns.
ℹ️Avoid touching the glass portion of halogen bulbs with bare hands as oils can cause premature failure. Use gloves or clean cloth.

Tools required

Flathead screwdriver or trim removal toolEssential
Socket wrench set
Work light or flashlightEssential
Gloves (nitrile or cloth)

Parts

  • Fog light bulb (H10 or H16 depending on trim) × 1 — Use OEM specification or verify bulb type

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and turn off engine
  2. Turn off fog lights and allow to cool completely
  3. Turn steering wheel fully to the side opposite the fog light being replaced for better access
  4. Verify replacement bulb type matches existing bulb before beginning work

Procedure

  1. 1
Access fog light housing from wheel well
Reach behind the front bumper fascia from the wheel well area. You may need to partially pull back the inner fender liner for better access. On some models, removing 1-2 plastic push pins or screws from the fender liner provides easier access to the fog light assembly.
  2. 2
    Disconnect electrical connector
Locate the electrical connector on the back of the fog light bulb socket. Press the release tab and pull the connector straight away from the bulb socket. Do not pull on the wiring harness itself.
  3. 3
    Remove bulb socket from housing
Rotate the bulb socket counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn (90 degrees) until it releases from the fog light housing. Pull the socket straight out of the housing.
  4. 4
    Remove old bulb
Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket. If the bulb is stuck, gently wiggle while pulling. Inspect the socket for any signs of corrosion, melting, or damage.
  5. 5
    Install new bulb
Using gloves or a clean cloth, insert the new bulb into the socket. Ensure the bulb is fully seated and the alignment tabs match the socket orientation. Do not force the bulb; it should insert smoothly.
  6. 6
    Reinstall bulb socket into housing
Insert the bulb socket back into the fog light housing, aligning the tabs. Rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into place. Gently tug on the socket to verify it is secure.
  7. 7
    Reconnect electrical connector
Push the electrical connector onto the bulb socket until you hear or feel it click into place. Ensure the connection is secure by gently pulling on the connector.
  8. 8
    Reinstall fender liner components
If any fender liner push pins or screws were removed for access, reinstall them now. Ensure the fender liner is properly seated and all fasteners are secure.

Reassembly

  1. Return steering wheel to center position
  2. Ensure all fender liner components are properly secured and no tools are left in engine bay or wheel well area

Verification

  • Turn on the vehicle and activate the fog lights to verify the new bulb is functioning
  • Check that the fog light beam pattern is correct and similar brightness to the opposite side
  • Visually inspect from outside the vehicle to ensure the fog light housing is properly seated and there are no gaps in the bumper fascia
  • Take a short test drive and verify fog light operation under normal driving conditions
