Parts
- HVAC control panel assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn ignition off and remove key fob from vehicle
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes
- Allow HVAC system to cool if recently operated
- Set steering wheel to straight-ahead position for easier access
Procedure
- 1Remove center console lower trim panelUsing trim removal tools, carefully pry out the lower center console trim panel starting from the bottom edges. Work your way around the perimeter, releasing the retaining clips. Pull the panel away gently and set aside.
- 2Remove center stack lower storage compartmentOpen the center stack storage compartment below the HVAC controls. Locate and remove the two T20 Torx screws at the bottom of the compartment. Pull the storage bin forward and out, disconnecting any USB or power connectors if equipped.
- 3Remove center stack trim bezelStarting at the bottom corners near the cup holders, use trim tools to carefully pry the center stack trim bezel away from the dashboard. Work upward along both sides, releasing the retaining clips. The bezel surrounds the infotainment screen and HVAC controls. Pull it forward approximately 2 inches but do not fully remove yet.
- 4Disconnect hazard switch and other connectorsReach behind the partially removed bezel and locate the hazard switch electrical connector at the top center. Press the locking tab and disconnect. If your vehicle has additional switches in this bezel (heated seats, parking sensors, etc.), disconnect those connectors as well. Fully remove the bezel and set aside.
- 5Remove HVAC control panel mounting screwsWith the trim bezel removed, locate the four T20 Torx screws securing the HVAC control panel to the dashboard structure (two on each side). Remove all four screws and keep them in a safe location.
- 6Extract HVAC control panelCarefully pull the HVAC control panel forward out of the dashboard opening. You will have approximately 4-6 inches of wire harness slack. Support the panel with one hand while accessing the rear connectors.
- 7Disconnect electrical connectorsLocate the main electrical connector on the back of the control panel. Press the locking tab (usually red or gray) and pull the connector straight back to disconnect. If equipped with dual-zone climate control, there may be a second connector - disconnect it using the same method. Remove the old control panel completely.
- 8Install new HVAC control panelTake the new HVAC control panel and connect the electrical connector(s) to the back of the unit. Ensure you hear or feel a positive click indicating the locking tab has engaged. Gently tug on each connector to verify it is secure. Carefully guide the panel back into the dashboard opening, ensuring no wires are pinched.
- 9Secure control panel with mounting screwsAlign the HVAC control panel mounting holes with the dashboard structure. Install all four T20 Torx screws finger-tight first, then snug them evenly. Do not overtighten as you are threading into plastic bosses.
- 10Reinstall center stack trim bezelReconnect all electrical connectors to the hazard switch and any other switches in the trim bezel. Position the bezel over the control panel and infotainment screen, then press firmly around the perimeter to engage all retaining clips. You should hear audible clicks as each clip seats.
- 11Reinstall storage compartment and lower trimIf equipped, reconnect USB and power connectors to the storage compartment. Slide the compartment back into position and secure with the two T20 Torx screws. Reinstall the lower center console trim panel by aligning the clips and pressing firmly until all clips engage.
Reassembly
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal
- Verify all trim panels are flush and properly seated with no gaps
- Check that all clips are engaged by gently pulling on trim edges
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position without starting the engine
- Verify HVAC control panel illuminates and displays activate properly
- Test all HVAC functions: fan speed, temperature adjustment, mode selection, and recirculation
- Test A/C compressor engagement by selecting A/C and verifying compressor clutch cycles
- Verify heated/cooled seat buttons function if equipped and integrated into removed bezel
- Check that hazard lights and any other switches in the bezel operate correctly
- Start engine and verify all HVAC modes deliver air to correct vents with proper temperature control
- Verify no warning lights or HVAC fault codes are displayed in instrument cluster
