Parts
- Dashboard speaker × 1 — Use OEM specification or aftermarket equivalent with correct impedance
- Trim panel clips (if broken) × 1 — Ford OEM dash clips
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn ignition off and remove key from vehicle
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait minimum 2 minutes for airbag system to discharge
- Identify which dashboard speaker requires replacement (driver or passenger side)
- Gather all necessary tools and replacement speaker
Procedure
- 1Remove dashboard speaker grilleLocate the dashboard speaker grille cover on top of the dash. Insert trim panel removal tool carefully at the edge of the grille and gently pry upward. Work around the perimeter to release all retaining clips. Lift the grille away from the dashboard.
- 2Remove speaker mounting screwsWith the grille removed, locate the speaker mounting screws (typically 2-3 screws). Using a T20 Torx driver, remove all mounting screws securing the speaker to the dashboard frame. Keep screws in a safe location for reinstallation.
- 3Extract speaker from housingCarefully lift the speaker up and out of the dashboard housing. You may need to angle it slightly to clear the opening. Do not pull forcefully as the wire harness is still connected.
- 4Disconnect speaker wire harnessNote the wire polarity markings on the speaker terminals before disconnection. Press the locking tab on the speaker connector and pull it straight off the speaker terminals. If equipped with individual wire terminals, carefully remove each wire noting positive and negative positions.
- 5Install new speakerConnect the wire harness to the new speaker, ensuring correct polarity (positive to positive, negative to negative). Verify the connector is fully seated and locked. Lower the speaker into the dashboard housing, aligning the mounting holes with the frame.
- 6Secure speaker mounting screwsInstall all speaker mounting screws finger-tight first to ensure proper alignment. Using the T20 Torx driver, tighten screws evenly in a cross-pattern to avoid warping the speaker frame. Do not overtighten as this can damage the speaker housing.
- 7Reinstall speaker grillePosition the speaker grille over the opening, aligning all clip locations. Press firmly around the perimeter until all clips snap into place. Ensure the grille is flush with the dashboard surface and properly seated.
- 8Reconnect battery and testReconnect the negative battery terminal. Turn the ignition to accessory mode and test the speaker by adjusting balance/fade controls to isolate the replaced speaker. Verify sound quality and proper operation at various volume levels.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Ensure all trim clips are properly engaged and grille is flush with dashboard
- Verify no gaps exist between speaker grille and dashboard surface
- Check that no tools or fasteners were left in the dashboard cavity
Verification
- Test speaker at low, medium, and high volumes to verify proper operation
- Adjust balance and fade controls to confirm sound is coming from the correct speaker location
- Listen for rattles or vibrations that may indicate improper installation
- Verify speaker grille is securely fastened and does not rattle during test
- Confirm no airbag warning lights are illuminated on instrument cluster
