Warnings

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Loosen front wheel lug nuts while vehicle is on ground (do not remove)
  3. Raise front of vehicle with floor jack at designated lift points
  4. Support vehicle with jack stands under frame rails rated for vehicle weight
  5. Remove both front wheels completely

    Visually inspect both sway bar links for torn boots, excessive play, or damage. Check ball joint boots for cracks or tears. This confirms the need for replacement.

    Remove driver side upper nut
    Locate the upper attachment point where the sway bar link connects to the sway bar itself. Insert the 6mm Allen key into the ball joint shaft to prevent spinning. Using an 18mm wrench, remove the upper nut while holding the shaft. Remove the complete sway bar link from the vehicle.

    Remove passenger side sway bar link
    Repeat the removal process for the passenger side sway bar link. Remove the lower nut first (control arm attachment), then the upper nut (sway bar attachment), using the 6mm Allen key to hold the ball joint shaft while removing each nut. Remove the complete link from the vehicle.

    Clean mounting surfaces
    Use a wire brush to clean the threads on the sway bar and control arm attachment points. Remove any rust, debris, or corrosion. Inspect threads for damage. Clean the contact surfaces where the sway bar link ball joints will seat.

    Position the new driver side sway bar link between the sway bar and lower control arm. Install the lower nut (control arm side) first, threading it by hand onto the ball joint stud. Then install the upper nut (sway bar side), threading it by hand. Do not torque at this time. Ensure the ball joint boots are properly positioned and not pinched.

    Hold the ball joint shaft with the 6mm Allen key to prevent rotation. Torque the lower nut first, then the upper nut to specification using an 18mm socket and torque wrench. Verify the Allen key remains engaged in the shaft throughout torquing to prevent the ball joint from spinning.

    Install passenger side new sway bar link
    Position the new passenger side sway bar link between the sway bar and lower control arm. Install the lower nut (control arm side) first, threading it by hand onto the ball joint stud. Then install the upper nut (sway bar side), threading it by hand. Do not torque at this time. Ensure the ball joint boots are properly positioned and not pinched.

    Torque passenger side sway bar link nuts
    Hold the ball joint shaft with the 6mm Allen key to prevent rotation. Torque the lower nut first, then the upper nut to specification using an 18mm socket and torque wrench. Verify the Allen key remains engaged in the shaft throughout torquing to prevent the ball joint from spinning.

    Reinstall wheels
    Mount both front wheels onto the hubs. Install lug nuts and hand-tighten in a star pattern. Do not fully torque while vehicle is on jack stands.

    Lower vehicle and final torque
    Carefully lower the vehicle from jack stands using the floor jack. Once vehicle weight is fully on the ground, torque the wheel lug nuts in a star pattern to specification using a torque wrench.
