This procedure covers the replacement of the front turn signal bulb on a 2021-2024 Ford F-150 with the 3.5L EcoBoost engine. This is a straightforward bulb replacement accessible from the engine bay.

Warnings

Allow headlights to cool for at least 10 minutes if recently operated to avoid burns from hot bulb housing
ℹ️Avoid touching the glass portion of halogen bulbs with bare fingers; oils can cause premature failure. Use gloves or hold by the base

Tools required

Socket wrench set (10mm)
Trim panel removal tool or flathead screwdriver
Gloves (nitrile or cotton)

Parts

  • Front turn signal bulb (3457A or 3757A amber) × 1 — Ford YL8Z-13466-AA or equivalent 3457A/3757A

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
  2. Allow headlight assembly to cool if recently operated
  3. Ensure correct replacement bulb type (3457A or 3757A amber bulb) is available
  4. Put on gloves to prevent skin oils from contaminating new bulb

Procedure

  1. 1
    Access the headlight assembly
Open the hood and locate the headlight assembly on the side requiring bulb replacement. The turn signal housing is positioned on the outboard corner of the headlight assembly.
  2. 2
Locate the turn signal bulb socket
From the engine bay side, identify the turn signal bulb socket at the outer edge of the headlight assembly. It is a round socket with attached wiring harness, typically positioned at the corner of the assembly nearest the fender.
  3. 3
    Remove the bulb socket
Grasp the bulb socket firmly and rotate counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn (90 degrees) until it releases from the headlight housing. Pull the socket straight back out of the housing.
  4. 4
    Remove the old bulb
With the socket removed, press the bulb gently into the socket while rotating counterclockwise to release it from the bayonet-style mount. Pull the bulb straight out of the socket. Inspect the socket for any corrosion or damage.
  5. 5
    Install the new bulb
While wearing gloves or holding the new bulb by its base, insert it into the socket. Press in gently and rotate clockwise until it locks into place. Ensure the bulb is fully seated and secure in the socket.
  6. 6
    Reinstall the bulb socket
Align the socket tabs with the slots in the headlight housing and insert the socket. Rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks securely into position. Gently tug on the socket to verify it is fully seated.
  7. 7
    Test turn signal operation
Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine does not need to be running). Activate the turn signal on the replaced side and verify the new bulb illuminates with proper amber color and flashing rate. Check both front and side marker function if applicable.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure bulb socket is fully locked into headlight housing with no gaps
  2. Verify wiring harness is not pinched or contacting hot engine components
  3. Close hood securely

Verification

  • Test turn signal operation with ignition ON to confirm proper bulb function and flash rate
  • Verify hazard lights function correctly on both sides
  • Visually inspect from outside vehicle to confirm proper amber illumination
  • Check that no warning lights appear on instrument cluster regarding turn signal malfunction
