This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the front engine mount on the 2018-2024 Honda Accord with the 1.5L turbo engine.

Warnings

⚠️Ensure the engine is properly supported before removing any mount bolts. Engine can shift suddenly if not adequately supported.
Allow engine to cool completely before beginning work to avoid burn injuries.
Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always use jack stands.

Parts

  • Front engine mount assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Allow engine to cool completely if recently operated
  3. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 3 minutes for SRS system to discharge
  4. Raise and support front of vehicle on jack stands at factory lift points
  5. Remove front engine splash shield/under cover

Procedure

  1. 1
    Support the engine
Position a transmission jack with a wood block under the oil pan to support the engine weight. Apply gentle upward pressure to take load off the front mount, but do not lift the engine. Alternatively, use an engine support fixture from above attached to the engine lift points.
  2. 2
    Remove mount through-bolt
Locate the main through-bolt that passes horizontally through the front engine mount. Use a 19mm socket to remove this through-bolt. This bolt secures the engine-side bracket to the frame-side mount.
    Torque spec
    Through-Bolt85 Nm (63 lb-ft)
  3. 3
    Remove engine mount-to-block bolts
Remove the bolts securing the engine mount bracket to the engine block. There are typically 3 bolts accessible from above or below depending on bracket design. Use a 17mm socket with appropriate extensions to access all bolts.
    Torque spec
    Engine Mount-to-Block Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
  4. 4
    Remove mount-to-frame bolts
From underneath the vehicle, remove the bolts securing the lower mount assembly to the subframe. These are typically 2-3 bolts accessed with a 14mm or 17mm socket. Support the mount as you remove the final bolt.
    Torque spec
    Engine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)
  5. 5
    Remove front engine mount assembly
Carefully lower and remove the front engine mount assembly from the vehicle. The mount may need to be maneuvered at an angle to clear surrounding components. Inspect the removed mount for cracks, separation, or fluid leakage.
  6. 6
    Clean mounting surfaces
Clean all mounting surfaces on the engine block and subframe using a wire brush or scraper. Remove any dirt, rust, or old thread locker residue. Ensure mating surfaces are clean and flat for proper mount seating.
  7. 7
Install new front mount to frame
Position the new front engine mount assembly to the subframe. Start all mount-to-frame bolts by hand to ensure proper alignment before tightening. Torque bolts to specification in a crossing pattern.
    Torque spec
    Engine Mount-to-Frame Bolts75 Nm (55 lb-ft)
  8. 8
Install mount bracket to engine block
Align the engine-side bracket with the mounting points on the engine block. Install all mounting bolts and torque to specification. Ensure bracket is fully seated before final torquing.
    Torque spec
    Engine Mount-to-Block Bolts65 Nm (48 lb-ft)
  9. 9
    Install through-bolt
Align the engine-side bracket with the frame-side mount. Insert the through-bolt and torque to specification. This bolt joins the two halves of the mount assembly and must be properly torqued for safe operation.
    Torque spec
    Through-Bolt85 Nm (63 lb-ft)
  10. 10
    Remove engine support
Carefully lower and remove the transmission jack or engine support fixture. Allow the engine to settle onto the new mount naturally. Check that all mount components are properly aligned and seated.

Reassembly

  1. Reinstall the front engine splash shield/under cover and torque fasteners to specification
  2. Lower vehicle from jack stands
  3. Reconnect negative battery terminal
  4. Start engine and verify no abnormal vibration or movement

Verification

  • Start the engine and observe mount for excessive movement or vibration
  • With engine running, shift transmission through all gears (brake applied) and verify smooth engagement without excessive engine movement
  • Perform a test drive and verify no abnormal vibrations at idle, acceleration, or deceleration
  • Visually inspect all mount bolts are tight and properly seated
  • Listen for any unusual noises during engine operation that may indicate improper installation
