Parts

  • Headlight switch assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition off and remove key fob from vehicle
  3. Disconnect negative battery terminal and secure cable away from terminal
  4. Wait minimum 3 minutes for airbag system to discharge
  5. Adjust steering wheel to lowest position for dashboard access

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove lower dashboard trim panel
Using a panel removal tool, carefully pry the lower driver's side dashboard trim panel starting from the bottom edge. Release the retaining clips by pulling gently outward. The panel is held by plastic clips only, no screws. Work your way around the perimeter until all clips are released, then remove panel and set aside.
  2. 2
    Remove driver's side knee bolster
Locate and remove the Phillips screws securing the knee bolster panel below the steering column (typically 3-4 screws). Pull the panel toward you to release any remaining clips and set aside. This provides access to the rear of the headlight switch.

    Cover Screws10 Nm (8 lb-ft)
  3. 3
    Locate headlight switch assembly
Identify the headlight switch assembly on the left side of the dashboard, to the left of the steering wheel. Note the electrical connector routing from the rear of the switch module. Use flashlight to inspect connector location and locking mechanism.
  4. 4
    Disconnect electrical connector
Reach behind the dashboard and locate the electrical connector on the rear of the headlight switch assembly. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight back to disconnect. Do not pull on wires. If access is difficult, you may need to remove additional trim for better reach.
Do not force connector release - ensure locking tab is fully depressed before pulling
  5. 5
    Remove headlight switch mounting fasteners
From behind the dashboard, locate the mounting tabs or screws securing the headlight switch assembly to the dash panel. On this model, the switch is typically held by plastic retaining tabs that must be squeezed or released. Carefully release each tab while supporting the switch.
  6. 6
    Extract headlight switch
Once all mounting tabs are released, carefully pull the headlight switch assembly forward from the dashboard opening. Guide it out slowly to avoid catching on any surrounding components. Remove switch from vehicle.
  7. 7
    Install new headlight switch
Position the new headlight switch assembly in the dashboard opening. Align the mounting tabs with their corresponding slots in the dashboard panel. Push the switch firmly into place until all mounting tabs click and engage fully. Verify switch is seated flush with dashboard surface.
  8. 8
    Reconnect electrical connector
Route the electrical connector to the rear of the new headlight switch assembly. Align the connector and push straight in until you hear or feel a positive click, indicating the locking tab has engaged. Gently tug on connector to verify secure connection.
  9. 9
    Reinstall knee bolster panel
Position the knee bolster panel back into place below the steering column. Align all mounting points and press firmly to engage any clips. Install and tighten the Phillips screws to secure the panel.

  10. 10
    Reinstall lower dashboard trim
Align the lower dashboard trim panel with its mounting location. Starting with the top edge, press firmly to engage the retaining clips. Work your way around the panel perimeter, pressing at each clip location until all clips are fully seated and panel is secure.
  11. 11
    Reconnect battery
Reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten the terminal bolt to specification. Ensure good contact and connection is secure.
Do not overtighten battery terminal bolt - use specified torque only
    Torque spec
    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all dashboard trim panels are fully seated and all clips engaged before testing
  2. Verify no tools or parts were left in dashboard cavity
  3. Return steering wheel to desired driving position

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine
  • Test headlight switch through all positions: off, parking lights, headlights, and auto mode if equipped
  • Verify instrument cluster headlight indicator illuminates correctly
  • Test high beam and turn signal functions to ensure no interference
  • Confirm all dashboard warning lights function normally and no new warning messages appear
  • Test daytime running lights if equipped
  • Verify headlight switch illumination works when parking lights are on
